Fractional h-difference equations arising from the calculus of variations [PDF]

open access: yesApplicable Analysis and Discrete Mathematics, 2011
The recent theory of fractional h-difference equations introduced in [N.R.O. Bastos, R. A. C. Ferreira, D. F. M. Torres: Discrete-time fractional variational problems, Signal Process. 91 (2011), no. 3, 513{524], is enriched with useful tools for the explicit solution of discrete equations involving left and right fractional difference ...

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

A solution to a fractional order semilinear equation using variational method

open access: yesMathematics in Applied Sciences and Engineering, 2020
We will discuss how we obtain a solution to a semilinear pseudo-differential equation involving fractional power of laplacian by using a method analogous to the direct method of calculus of variations.

Fractional Variations for Dynamical Systems: Hamilton and Lagrange Approaches

open access: yes, 2006
Fractional generalization of an exterior derivative for calculus of variations is defined. The Hamilton and Lagrange approaches are considered. Fractional Hamilton and Euler-Lagrange equations are derived.

Variational methods for fractional $q$-Sturm--Liouville Problems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
In this paper, we formulate a regular $q$-fractional Sturm--Liouville problem (qFSLP) which includes the left-sided Riemann--Liouville and the right-sided Caputo $q$-fractional derivatives of the same order $\alpha$, $\alpha\in (0,1)$.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Fractional-Order Extremum Seeking Method for Maximum Torque per Ampere Control of Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor

open access: yesFractal and Fractional, 2023
Maximum torque per ampere (MTPA) control of internal permanent magnet synchronous motors (IPMSM) has become integral to high-efficiency motor drives. To minimize the influence of the traditional model-based analytical solution method on the MTPA control ...

Leitmann's direct method for fractional optimization problems

open access: yes, 2010
Based on a method introduced by Leitmann [Internat. J. Non-Linear Mech. {\bf 2} (1967), 55--59], we exhibit exact solutions for some fractional optimization problems of the calculus of variations and optimal control.Comment: Submitted June 16, 2009 and ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...
