Analogue Realization of Fractional-Order Dynamical Systems

open access: yesEntropy, 2013
As it results from many research works, the majority of real dynamical objects are fractional-order systems, although in some types of systems the order is very close to integer order.

Gauge/gravity duality and the interplay of various fractional branes

open access: yes, 2008
We consider different types of fractional branes on a Z_2 orbifold of the conifold and analyze in detail the corresponding gauge/gravity duality. The gauge theory possesses a rich and varied dynamics, both in the UV and in the IR.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Subdiffusion-limited reactions

open access: yes, 2001
We consider the coagulation dynamics A+A -> A and A+A A and the annihilation dynamics A+A -> 0 for particles moving subdiffusively in one dimension. This scenario combines the "anomalous kinetics" and "anomalous diffusion" problems, each of which leads ...

An isoform of 14‐3‐3 protein regulates transbilayer lipid movement at the plasma membrane

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Loss of 14‐3‐3ζ in CHO cells confers resistance to exogenous phosphatidylserine (PS) and impairs endocytosis‐independent inward flip‐flop of fluorescent PS at the plasma membrane. RNAi‐mediated knockdown reproduces this defect, while no additive effect is seen in ATP11C‐deficient cells.

Fractional Control of Dynamic Systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The concepts involved with fractional calculus (FC) theory are applied in almost all areas of science and engineering. Its ability to yield superior modeling and control in many dynamical systems is well recognized. In this article, we will introduce the fundamental aspects associated with the application of FC to the control of dynamic systems.

Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...

pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...

The Impact of Memory Effects on Lymphatic Filariasis Transmission Using Incidence Data From Ghana

open access: yesEngineering Reports
Lymphatic filariasis is a neglected tropical disease caused by a parasitic worm transmitted to humans by a mosquito bite. In this study, a mathematical model is developed using the Caputo fractional operator.

The role of domain walls on the vortex creep dynamics in unconventional superconducors

open access: yes, 1999
We investigate the influence of domain walls on the vortex dynamics in superconductors with multi-component order parameters. We show that, due to their complex structure domain walls can carry vortices with fractional flux quanta.
