Obstructive Sleep Apnea: Epidemiology, Pathophysiology, Complications, Diagnosis, Management, and Emerging Fibrosis‐Linked Remodeling

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 7, Issue 8, August 2026.
Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is characterized by recurrent upper‐airway collapse, which generates key nocturnal stressors including intermittent hypoxia, sleep fragmentation, intrathoracic pressure stress, and sympathetic activation. These physiological disturbances converge on shared biological mechanisms, including oxidative stress, inflammation ...

Pediatric Mild Asthma: Bridging Current Gaps to Improve Future Care

open access: yesPediatric Pulmonology, Volume 61, Issue 8, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Pediatric mild asthma is considered a benign condition, yet it accounts for a substantial proportion of morbidity. Characterization and management of children or adolescents with mild asthma are less explored than in adults, particularly due to its heterogeneous nature and variable course.

Treatable Traits‐Oriented Management in Pre‐COPD With Severe Obstructive Sleep Apnea: A Case Report of Symptomatic and Spirometric Improvement After Integrated Therapy

open access: yesRespirology Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 8, August 2026.
This case illustrates a multifactorial treatable traits‐oriented approach in pre‐COPD complicated by severe obstructive sleep apnea. Inhaled triple therapy plus effective CPAP was associated with symptomatic and spirometric improvement over 12 weeks, although causality cannot be inferred from a single case.

Dissociated Biologic Responses Across the United Airway: A Case Report of Severe Asthma With Chronic Rhinosinusitis With Nasal Polyps and Eosinophilic Otitis Media

open access: yesRespirology Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 8, August 2026.
We report a case of severe asthma with chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps and eosinophilic otitis media that was successfully controlled by switching biologic therapy from dupilumab to mepolizumab. Careful monitoring of disease activity and consideration of biologic switching may help achieve optimal control with currently available biologics ...

Inhaled N‐Acetylcysteine as a Potential Adjunctive Therapy in Mucus Plug‐Forming Asthma With Irpex lacteus Isolation: A Case Report

open access: yesRespirology Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 8, August 2026.
A 68‐year‐old woman with mucus plug‐forming asthma and highly tenacious sputum received repeated administrations of inhaled N‐acetylcysteine, with subsequent rapid sputum improvement and radiographic resolution of mucus plugging. This case suggests that tenacious sputum may represent a treatable trait and that inhaled N‐acetylcysteine may serve as a ...

Role of fractional exhaled nitric oxide in patients with sickle cell disease

open access: yesAnales de Pediatría (English Edition)
Introduction: Patients with sickle cell disease exhibit different patterns in pulmonary function tests. In particular, there is little evidence on the fractional exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO) test, and its value ranges and its interpretation in these ...
