Propped Fracture Conductivity in Shales
Volume 6: Polar and Arctic Sciences and Technology; Offshore Geotechnics; Petroleum Technology Symposium, 2013The successful development of the major shale gas plays in North America hinges upon the creation of complicated fracture networks by pumping low viscosity fracturing fluid with low proppant concentrations at high flow rate. Direct laboratory measurement of hydraulic fracture conductivity created in the networks is needed for reliable well performance ...

Evaluation of Fracture Asymmetry of Finite-Conductivity Fractured Wells
SPE Production Engineering, 1992SummaryThis paper presents a graphical technique to evaluate asymmetry of hydraulically fractured wells. This technique is based on a new analytical solution for the pressure behavior of a finite-conductivity, asymmetrically fractured well during the pseudolinear flow period and the known bilinear flow solution.

Acid Fracturing: The Effect of Formation Strength on Fracture Conductivity
SPE Hydraulic Fracturing Technology Conference, 2009Abstract A few studies considered the role of rock strength on fracture conductivity retained at elevated closure strengths. Based on experimental results and field data, many correlations were derived with a consideration of both the surface roughness and rock mechanical properties. These studies found that acid fracture conductivity is

Hydraulic Conductivity of a Fractured Aquitard
2002An investigation was conducted to characterize the hydraulic conductivity of a shallow clay till aquitard over which a municipal solid waste landfill was being sited. Hydraulic conductivity tests were conducted in the laboratory on specimens removed from the till in thin-wall sampling tubes (71 mm diameter) and as large hand-carved blocks (460 mm ...

TRANSIENT FLOW TO FINITE CONDUCTIVITY VERTICAL FRACTURES
Proceedings of SPE Annual Fall Technical Conference and Exhibition, 1978Abstract A finite element model was used to study the behavior of a well intersecting a finite conductivity vertical fracture at the center of a closed square reservoir. The two dimensional flow of single phase fluid was assumed to follow Darcy's law. The fracture and formation were represented by regions of uniform

Conductivity of Fibre Composites with Fractures on the Boundary of Inclusions
Multiscale Modeling & Simulation, 2013A fibre composite consists of two materials bonded at an interface. There are fractures on the interfaces along which the phases are isolated. Maxwell's approach is applied to deduce a new analytical formula for the effective conductivity for such dilute composites with perfectly conducting inclusions.

Using Lines-of-Solutions to Understand Fracture Conductivity and Fracture Cleanup
SPE Production and Operations Symposium, 2011Abstract Evaluation of fracturing treatments in tight-gas sands is often frustrated by uniqueness problems when matching gas rates and bottomhole flowing pressure (BHFP) data alone. A fit-for-purpose simulator was used to match gas rates, BHFP, cumulative water, and composition of the water during cleanup after a fracturing treatment. The

Changing the Shape of Fracturing: New Proppant Improves Fracture Conductivity
SPE Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition, 2010Abstract Hydraulic fracturing is used extensively to increase hydrocarbon production from oil and gas formations. Hydraulic fracture conductivity is a key parameter in optimizing the productivity of a well after the fracture treatment. The American Petroleum Institute (API) proppant permeability / fracture conductivity testing results ...

Optimum Fracture Conductivity for Naturally Fractured Shale and Tight Reservoirs
SPE Production & Operations, 2015Summary With the development of unconventional shale and tight reservoirs, stimulation treatments that place multiple transverse fractures have received greater attention in recent years. The post-fracture productivity of such low-permeability reservoirs is largely determined by the matrix/fracture contact area with appropriate fracture ...

Theoretical analysis of fracture conductivity created by the channel fracturing technique
Journal of Natural Gas Science and Engineering, 2016Abstract The channel fracturing technique has been increasingly popular in recent years. It is of great significance in increasing fracture conductivity while reducing water and proppant consumption. Stable open channels are created inside the fractures by this technique, which allow hydrocarbons to flow through without too much resistance from ...
