Seroprevalence of Toxoplasma gondii infection in slaughtered chickens, ducks, and geese in Shenyang, northeastern China

open access: yesParasites & Vectors, 2012
Background In recent years, investigations of Toxoplasma gondii infection in poultry (chickens, ducks, and geese) have been reported worldwide, including China. However, little is known about the prevalence of T.

Effects of grazing mixed-grass pastures on growth performance, immune responses, and intestinal microbiota in free-range Beijing-you chickens

open access: yesPoultry Science, 2021
There is an increasing interest in free-range poultry with the increasing focus on food safety and animal welfare. This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of grazing mixed-grass pastures on growth performance, immune responses, and intestinal ...

Contemporary outbreaks of different avipoxviruses in Humboldt penguins of wild animal park Planckendael and in chickens of commercial poultry farms in Belgium [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
In the present study, the first outbreak of a penguinpox virus (PPV) in Humboldt penguins (Spheniscus humboldd) and four outbreaks of fowlpox virus (FPV) in layer chickens are reported.

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Specific expression pattern of IMP metabolism related-genes in chicken muscle between cage and free range conditions. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2018
Inosine monophosphate (IMP) is a key factor affecting the fleshy flavor of meat; meanwhile, the free-range mode is an efficient strategy to improve muscular IMP content.

Mortality in organic free-range chickens and molecular characterization of the involved pathogens [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Longitudinal investigations on causes of mortality were carried out at one organic layer farm with four flocks of Lohman Brown and Lohman White chickens producing table eggs. All flocks were housed separately.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Ranging Behaviour of Commercial Free-Range Broiler Chickens 2: Individual Variation

open access: yesAnimals, 2017
Little is known about broiler chicken ranging behaviour. Previous studies have monitored ranging behaviour at flock level but whether individual ranging behaviour varies within a flock is unknown.

Molecular prevalence and genetic diversity of Toxoplasma gondii in free range chicken in Northeastern Libya

open access: yesOpen Veterinary Journal, 2023
Background: Toxoplasma gondii is one of the zoonotic protozoa parasites. It can prevalently infect humans and warm-blooded animals, causing human health problems and substantial economic losses to the livestock industry worldwide.
