Conformational constraints on side chains in protein residues increase their information content [PDF]
Like all other complex biological systems, proteins exhibit properties not seen in free amino acids (i.e., emergent properties). The present investigation arose from the deduction that proteins should offer a good model to approach the reverse phenomenon,

Alzheimer's disease: amino acid levels and brain metabolic status [PDF]
To study brain free amino acids and their relation with dementia we measured, by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), the concentration of eight free amino acids, amines and related compounds.

Mechanisms of parasite‐mediated disruption of brain vessels
Parasites can affect the blood vessels of the brain, often causing serious neurological problems. This review explains how different parasites interact with and disrupt these vessels, what this means for brain health, and why these processes matter. Understanding these mechanisms may help us develop better ways to prevent or treat brain infections in ...

Amino acid profile of eighteen isolates of different edible macrofungal species
Edible mushrooms from India (18 isolates belonging to 4 species) were profiled for protein, free and bound amino acids (AA). The protein content (range of 9.5-32.6%) was highest in Pleurotus cintrinopileatus and P. sajor-caju; free AA (range of 11.6-73.1

This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Free amino acids in the environment of the developing embryo (Dicotyledonous plants)
The analyses of the central vacule sap in ovules of Aesculus hybrida D.C. and A. hippocastanum L. (generally during the exponential phase of the embryo growth) for free amino acids have been carried out.

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...
