Single atom activated multi-stage active sites for thoroughgoing sodium utilization

open access: yesNature Communications
Atomically dispersed metals offer advantages in guiding sodium deposition, yet the effects of single atoms on their surrounding structures and the precise tuning of coordination-governed single-atom activity remain underexplored. Herein, carbon nanofiber

Molecular dynamics simulations of positively selected codons in FcγRI reveal novel biochemical binding properties

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Evolutionary analysis across 32 placental mammals identified positive selection at residues H148 and W149 in the immune receptor FcγR1. Ancestral reconstruction combined with molecular dynamics simulations reveals how these mutations may influence receptor structure and dynamics, providing insight into the evolution of antibody recognition and immune ...

Thermodynamic and Spectroscopic Properties Investigation of Coronene as a Function of the Number of Oxygen Atoms and Temperature via Density Functional Theory

open access: yesIraqi Journal of Physics
The study focused on the thermodynamics characteristics such as (Gibbs free energy, heat capacity, entropy and enthalpy) and spectroscopic properties like (IR spectra, reduced masses, and force constant) of coronene (C24) and reduced coronene oxide ...

Defect-Induced Luminescence Quenching vs. Charge Carrier Generation of Phosphorus Incorporated in Silicon Nanocrystals as Function of Size

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2017
Phosphorus doping of silicon nanostructures is a non-trivial task due to problems with confinement, self-purification and statistics of small numbers. Although P-atoms incorporated in Si nanostructures influence their optical and electrical properties ...

UiO‐66 metal–organic frameworks in biomedicine: From structural tunability to bioimaging, photodiagnostics, and photodynamic cancer therapy

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
UiO‐66(Zr) metal–organic frameworks are chemically stable, biocompatible, and highly tunable nanomaterials. Their modular structure enables controlled drug delivery, multimodal bioimaging, and light‐activated photodynamic therapy, supporting integrated diagnostic and therapeutic (theranostic) applications in cancer and biomedical research.

Hydrostatic pressure activates HIF‐1α via β‐catenin to promote stemness in breast cancer cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
To mimic the elevated intestinal fluid pressure in breast cancers, we loaded human breast cancer cells (MCF‐7, MDA‐MB‐453, and BT‐474) to 50 mmHg hydrostatic pressure. Hydrostatic pressure exposure upregulated HIF‐1α and induced stemness in MCF‐7 and BT‐474 cells.

Isolated Ni atoms enable alkali-free photoreforming of waste polylactic acid plastic

open access: yesNature Communications
Although polylactic acid is a promising biodegradable plastic, its slow degradation under natural conditions, microplastic formation, and CO2 emissions during decomposition undermine its sustainability.

Directed evolution of enzymes at the crossroads of tradition and innovation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
An iterative cycle of data‐driven enzyme optimization comprising four stages: genetic diversification of a template enzyme, expression of protein variants, high‐throughput evaluation, and machine‐learning‐guided redesign of the next variant library.

First principles investigation of the redox behavior of the VCo₂O₄ (001) surface

open access: yesFuture Batteries
Due to the increased interest in vanadium cobaltite (VCo2O4) as a significant component of various catalysts, we have decided to investigate how its primary surfaces respond to oxidation and reduction processes. Our study employed computational modelling

Guiding AlphaFold to predict how Munc13‐1 opens Syntaxin‐1

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The syntaxin‐1 Habc‐domain (orange), linker (pink) and SNARE motif (yellow) form a closed conformation that binds to Munc18‐1 (violet) and is opened by the Munc13‐1 MUN domain (cyan) to form the SNARE complex that triggers neurotransmitter release.
