Active FEL-Klystrons as Formers of Femto-Second Clusters of Electromagnetic Field. Description of Models on the Basis of Sections of ‘Ordinary’ FEL’: Analisys [PDF]

open access: yesЖурнал нано- та електронної фізики, 2011
Physical processes of ultrashort electromagnetic cluster formation in multiharmonic parametrical free electron lasers are analyzed. The conditions, which are necessary for formation of such clusters, are found out.

Atomic inner-shell radiation seeded free-electron lasers

open access: yesPhysical Review Accelerators and Beams, 2018
In order to effectively improve the output quality of x-ray free electron laser (XFEL), we theoretically propose an XFEL scheme seeded by atomic inner-shell laser.

Membrane protein structural biology using X-ray free electron lasers.

open access: yesCurrent Opinion in Structural Biology, 2015
Membrane protein structural biology has benefitted tremendously from access to micro-focus crystallography at synchrotron radiation sources. X-ray free electron lasers (XFELs) are linear accelerator driven X-ray sources that deliver a jump in peak X-ray ...

Influence of Sample Preparation and Processing Procedures on the Thermal Diffusivity of MgO‐C Refractories

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The thermal diffusivity of MgO‐C refractories is highly sensitive to sample preparation and processing procedures. In this article, the effects of coking sequence, machining conditions, structural inhomogeneity, and graphite coating application on measurements using laser flash apparatus are systematically investigated.

Linear optics correction for linacs and free electron lasers

open access: yesPhysical Review Accelerators and Beams, 2018
Linear optics errors in the linac, the transport line, and the undulator section of a free electron laser (FEL) can significantly impact the FEL performance.

Tunable Electron Multibunch Production in Plasma Wakefield Accelerators [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Synchronized, independently tunable and focused $\mu$J-class laser pulses are used to release multiple electron populations via photo-ionization inside an electron-beam driven plasma wave.

Investigation of Laser Ablation and Brush Pre‐Treatments for AlCu Cold Roll Bonding in Oxygen‐Free Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
It is shown that laser ablation pretreatment under oxygen‐free conditions enables copper–aluminium bonding at significantly lower deformation degrees and improved properties compared to mechanical brushing. Laser ablation further increases interface contact area and induces favourable residual stress states and microstructural compatibility ...

Quantum regime of free electron lasers starting from noise

open access: yesPhysical Review Special Topics. Accelerators and Beams, 2006
We investigate the quantum regime of a high-gain free-electron laser starting from noise. In the first part, we neglect the radiation propagation and we formulate a quantum linear theory of the N-particle free-electron laser Hamiltonian model, quantizing

Minimum Spectral Bandwidth in Echo Seeded Free Electron Lasers

open access: yesFrontiers in Physics, 2019
This paper examines the impact of non-linear longitudinal phase distortions on the spectral bandwidth in echo seeded free electron lasers (FELs). It extends the existing theory developed in Hemsing [1] for echo-enabled harmonic generation (EEHG) to ...

Characterization of Nitinol Produced by Laser Powder Bed Fusion for Mechanical Metamaterial Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Stabilization of L‐PBF Ni50.7Ti49.3 under low‐cycle loading was investigated. Recoverable strain after cycling was dependent on the amount of applied load. Recovery ratio was 53.4% and 35.1% at intermediate and high load, respectively. The maximum total strain reached 10.3% at a high load of 1200 MPa.
