Allantoin as a Free-Radical Scavenger
Doklady Biochemistry and Biophysics, 2002In vertebrates, free purine bases are deaminated mainly to hypoxantine (Ia) or xantine (Ib), which are further oxidized to uric acid (Ic) in the presence of oxygen. Its further conversion (Ic to If) is shown in the following scheme:

Free Radical Scavenging Action of Baicalein
Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1993TJ-960 is a Japanese Kampo (traditional herbal) medicine used for the treatment of epilepsy. It's a crude drug, an extract of nine herbs, and consists of many known and unknown components. Among the known components of TJ-960, we found that 5,6,7-trihydroxy-2-phenyl-4H-1-benzopyran-4-one (baicalein) might be the most potent scavenger for radicals.

Copper or free radical scavenger?
Computational and Theoretical Chemistry, 2017Abstract Free radicals are very reactive molecules that produce so-called oxidative stress. To prevent oxidative stress there are two types of molecules: primary and secondary antioxidants. The chelation of copper is an example of a secondary antioxidant process. Therefore, these secondary antioxidants can be named copper scavengers. The main purpose

Modulation of platelet function by free radicals and free-radical scavengers
Trends in Pharmacological Sciences, 1993Platelets have the capacity to generate oxygen-derived free radicals and are often present at inflammatory foci with other free-radical-generating cells such as white blood cells. Free radicals can modify platelet adhesion and aggregation directly or through effects on the vascular endothelium, which generates prostacyclin and nitric oxide.

Free-radical-scavenging principles from Phlomis caucasica
Journal of Natural Medicines, 2008Seven free-radical-scavenging phenolic compounds including five flavonoids, rutin (1), chrysoeriol 7-O-rutinoside (2), kaempferol 3-O-glucoside (3), chrysoeriol 7-O-glucoside (4) and naringenin (5), and two phenylethanoid glycosides, forsythoside B (6) and acteoside (7) were isolated from the methanol extract of the aerial parts of the Iranian ...

Free Radical Scavenging Activity of Papaya Juice
International Journal of Radiation Biology, 1989Papaya juice is an efficient scavenger of highly reactive hydroxyl radicals (OH.) formed during 60Co irradiation of water. The OH. radicals were detected by the electron spin resonance (ESR) technique of spin trapping using DMPO (5,5-dimethyl-1-pyrroline-N-oxide) or by a colorimetric assay in which salicylate is converted into polyhydroxybenzoic acids.

Free radical scavenging activity of Lafoensia pacari
Journal of Ethnopharmacology, 2000The methanolic extract of the stem bark of Lafoensia pacari (Lythraceae) showed free radical scavenging activity in the diphenyl picryl hydrazyl radical (DPPH) decoloration assay and inhibited the enzyme xanthine oxidase 'in vitro'. Bioassay-guided isolation led to ellagic acid (EA) as the main active compound of Brazilian and Paraguayan collections of

Intravitreal U75412E: A New Free Radical Scavenger
Ophthalmic Surgery, Lasers and Imaging Retina, 1991ABSTRACT Free-radical-mediated tissue damage is thought to be involved in a multitude of ophthalmic pathologies. Therefore, drugs that scavenge free radicals may find wide clinical application. A new chemical class of antiinflammatory agents, the 21-aminosteroids, has been developed as free radical scavengers.

1994
Free radical chemistry is characterized by an unregulated chain reaction of sequential oxidations and reductions that can rapidly amplify the concentration of reactive radicals. The free radical is defined by the occurrence of an unpaired electron in an organic molecule or metal ion (Halliwell & Gutteridge, 1989).

Free Radical Scavenging Properties of Wheat Extracts
Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 2002Three hard winter wheat varieties (Akron, Trego, and Platte) were examined and compared for their free radical scavenging properties and total phenolic contents (TPC). Free radical scavenging properties of wheat grain extracts were evaluated by spectrophotometric and electron spin resonance (ESR) spectrometry methods against stable 2,2-diphenyl-1 ...
