Free Radical Scavenging Action of Baicalein

Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1993
TJ-960 is a Japanese Kampo (traditional herbal) medicine used for the treatment of epilepsy. It's a crude drug, an extract of nine herbs, and consists of many known and unknown components. Among the known components of TJ-960, we found that 5,6,7-trihydroxy-2-phenyl-4H-1-benzopyran-4-one (baicalein) might be the most potent scavenger for radicals.

Dithiocarbamate functionalized lignin for efficient removal of metallic ions and the usage of the metal-loaded bio-sorbents as potential free radical scavengers

, 2014
Lignin-based dithiocarbamate (LDTC) was synthesized by anchoring the chelating agent of dithiocarbamate to the ortho sites of phenol hydroxyl groups in the alkaline lignin matrix.

Modulation of platelet function by free radicals and free-radical scavengers

Trends in Pharmacological Sciences, 1993
Platelets have the capacity to generate oxygen-derived free radicals and are often present at inflammatory foci with other free-radical-generating cells such as white blood cells. Free radicals can modify platelet adhesion and aggregation directly or through effects on the vascular endothelium, which generates prostacyclin and nitric oxide.

Antioxidants and free radical scavengers for the treatment of stroke, traumatic brain injury and aging.

Current Medicinal Chemistry, 2008
The overproduction of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and reactive nitrogen species (RNS) is a common underlying mechanism of many neuropathologies, as they have been shown to damage various cellular components, including proteins, lipids and DNA.

Evaluation of antioxidant capacity of sesamol and free radical scavengers at different heating temperatures

, 2011
Sesamol is a natural antioxidant found in sesame oil from roasted sesame seeds. Activation energy and antioxidant capacity of sesamol were determined and compared with other free radical scavengers (FRSs) including tert-butylated-hydroxyquinone (TBHQ ...

Comparing antioxidant effectiveness of natural and synthetic free radical scavengers in thermally-oxidized lard using DPPH method.

Journal of Food Science, 2010
Antioxidant effectiveness of free radical scavengers (FRSs) of alpha-tocopherol, sesamol, butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT), and tert-butylhydroquinone (TBHQ) were evaluated in thermally-oxidized lard using methods of 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH ...

Low molecular weight compounds with transition metals as free radical scavengers and novel therapeutic agents.

Cardiovascular & Hematological Agents in Medicinal Chemistry, 2010
Molecules able to modulate the levels of endogenous free radicals, such as reactive oxygen species (ROS) and nitric oxide (NO), are of pivotal interest for pharmacological and pharmaceutical sciences because of their potential therapeutic relevance.

The Significance of Free Radicals and Free Radical Scavengers in L1210 Leukemia

1988
L1210 leukemia is a murine leukemia which is associated with anemia and marked neutrophilia. In order to determine the significance of free radicals (FR) in this disorder, we determined the presence and localization of free radical scavengers (FRS) and scavenger-like systems in L1210 leukemia cells obtained in vivo and from in vitro cultures.

Oxygen free radical scavenger properties of dehydroepiandrosterone

Cell Biochemistry and Function, 1998
The microsomes from dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA)-supplemented animals are good hydroxyl radical scavengers, as demonstrated through electron spin resonance and deoxyribose degradation. The ability of DHEA-supplemented microsomes to react with superoxide radical was also demonstrated through the inhibition of nitroblue-tetrazolium reduction determined ...

Free radical scavenging Activity :

DIU Journal of Health and Life Sciences, 2014
The present study was aimed at investigating the chemical profiles of the methanolic extract of leaves of Centella asiatica as well as to assess its antioxidative activity. In this study, a methanolic extract (50 g/L) was obtained by infusion followed by cold maceration for 24 h.
