Optimization of Performance Characteristics of Magnetofluidic Seals for Wind Power Plants

open access: yesИзвестия высших учебных заведений и энергетических объединенний СНГ: Энергетика, 2023
The use of magnetofluidic seals are a promising direction in sealing rotating shafts of wind power plants. Magnetofluidic seals are characterized by high tightness, simplicity of the design, low losses by friction.

By dawn or dusk—how circadian timing rewrites bacterial infection outcomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The circadian clock shapes immune function, yet its influence on infection outcomes is only beginning to be understood. This review highlights how circadian timing alters host responses to the bacterial pathogens Salmonella enterica, Listeria monocytogenes, and Streptococcus pneumoniae revealing that the effectiveness of immune defense depends not only

Free Surface Analysis of Spillway Flow under Radial Gate by EFG-NE Method [PDF]

open access: yesمهندسی منابع آب, 2017
The element-free Galerkin method (EFG) and the natural element method (NEM) are two well know methods in the computational mechanics and meshless methods. In this paper, a computational scheme using a variable domain and a fixed domain is presented based

Bent surface free energy differences from simulation

open access: yes, 2000
We present a calculation of the change of free energy of a solid surface upon bending of the solid. It is based on extracting the surface stress through a molecular dynamics simulation of a bent slab by using a generalized stress theorem formula, and ...

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Analytical research of vibration and far-field acoustic radiation of cylindrical shell immersed at finite depth

open access: yesZhongguo Jianchuan Yanjiu, 2017
Aiming at the current lack of analytical research concerning the cylindrical shell-flow field coupling vibration and sound radiation system under the influence of a free surface, this paper proposes an analytical method which solves the vibration ...

Vibration Energy Comparison Helps Identify Formation Time of New Free Surface in Urban Tunnel Blasting

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2022
Cut blasting creates new free surfaces that facilitate rock breaking and reduces blast vibration. However, the time when the new free surface is formed is not clear in on-site blasting practices.

Diffraction-Free Bloch Surface Waves [PDF]

open access: yesACS Nano, 2017
In this letter, we demonstrate a novel diffraction-free Bloch surface wave (DF-BSW) sustained on all-dielectric multilayers that does not diffract after being passed through three obstacles or across a single mode fiber. It can propagate in a straight line for distances longer than 110 m at a wavelength of 633 nm and could be applied as an in-plane ...

Structural insights into lacto‐N‐biose I recognition by a family 32 carbohydrate‐binding module from Bifidobacterium bifidum

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bifidobacterium bifidum establishes symbiosis with infants by metabolizing lacto‐N‐biose I (LNB) from human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs). The extracellular multidomain enzyme LnbB drives this process, releasing LNB via its catalytic glycoside hydrolase family 20 (GH20) lacto‐N‐biosidase domain.

Acoustic Field Radiation Prediction and Verification of Underwater Vehicles under a Free Surface

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2023
This study aimed to examine the acoustic field radiated by propellers and underwater vehicles. For the verification of sound radiation in underwater vehicles, numerical methods are widely used in addition to experiments and propeller blade frequencies ...
