Volume-preserving free-form solids
Proceedings of the third ACM symposium on Solid modeling and applications, 1995Some important trends in geometric modeling are the reliance on solid models rather than surface-based models and the enhancement of the expressive power of models, by using free-form objects in addition to the usual geometric primitives and by incorporating physical principles. An additional trend is the emphasis on interactive performance.

Free volume in nanodielectrics
2015 IEEE 11th International Conference on the Properties and Applications of Dielectric Materials (ICPADM), 2015It is now well established that the incorporation of nanoparticulates into a polymer matrix to form a nanodielectric can bring about useful improvements in electric strength provided that the processing results in acceptable particle dispersion. One of the theories of electrical breakdown in polymers seeks to associate breakdown with the polymer free ...

In the present contribution the dynamics of the intermolecular free volume is investigated. For this purpose a new computational algorithm has been proposed and programmed. The free volume is analyzed along the atomistic trajectory obtained by molecular dynamics simulations and a picture on time averaged free volume structure is obtained.

Confinement and free-volume requirements
Space Life Sciences, 1968Enclosure of individuals within a limited space may give rise to problems devolving from the associated restriction or constriction, as modified by any accompanying elements of social isolation and perceptual deprivation. In this paper, the nature of the resulting problems is outlined on the basis of analysis of some 60 studies of operational and ...

Free volumes and occupied volumes in oligomeric polypropylenglycols
Europhysics Letters (EPL), 2001It is shown that combined use of positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy-an experimental tool to investigate the intermolecular sub-nanometric spaces (free volume) in amorphous polymer-and of specific-volume measurements supplies unique information on the occupied volume, allowing one to study its behavior under variation of thermodynamic ...

Free volume and stochastic theory of volume relaxation
Journal of Polymer Science Part B: Polymer Physics, 2006AbstractThe stochastic theory of volume relaxation previously applied to the physical aging process in the glassy state of polymers had been formulated as a discrete set of coupled differential equations for the time‐dependent, discrete free volume state probabilities. A reformulation of this theory for a continuum of free volume states is described in

An unambiguous operational definition of free volume is discussed, according to which the covolume for a given state of a fluid is defined as the intercept on the V-axis of the tangent line to a curve of (ðT/ðP) v against volume V.

Free volume theory and nonlinear thermoviscoelasticity
Polymer Engineering & Science, 1992AbstractThe rheological behavior of polymers in the neighborhood of the glass transition is investigated in the framework of the free volume theory of nonlinear viscoelastic behavior. Free volume theory as normally applied above the glass transition is modified to account for the effect of the residual volume of vacancies below the glass transition ...

Positronium trapping in free volume of polymers
Radiation Physics and Chemistry, 2000Abstract Positronium trapping process caused by slow thermalization of Ps inside intermolecular spaces of polymer is considered. The pickoff annihilation rate of Ps decreases from an initial value, characteristic for the delocalized Ps, to a final value, relating to its localized state. The elastic thermalization lifetime analysis of polymers spectra
