Free-volume distributions of polystyrene probed by positron annihilation: comparison with free-volume theories

Macromolecules, 1993
The free-volume hole distribution in polystyrene (T g = 95°C, molar weight 106000) has been investigated as a function of temperature. The hole volume distributions are determined from orthopositronium distributions. The hole volumes are distributed between 35 and 200 A 3 . The fractions of free volumes are distributed from 2.0% to 11% of total volume.

Microstructure of free volume in SMA copolymers II. Local free volume from PALS

Polymer, 2005
Abstract The structure of the free volume and its temperature dependence between, at maximum 133 and 503 K of copolymers of styrene with maleic-anhydride, SMA (0–35 mol% MA), is studied by pressure–volume–temperature (PVT) experiments and positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy (PALS).

Stress-free equilibrium volume of the lung

Journal of Applied Physiology, 1977
An experimental procedure was developed to measure the stress-free equilibrium volume of intact lobes from the lung of the dog. The procedure eliminates body, gravitational, interfacial, and externally applied forces to study the contribution of the tissue forces. The equilibrium gas volume was found to be 1.74 +/- 0.20 times the tissue volume and was

A remark on a free interface problem with volume constraint

J. of Convex Anal., vol.18, 2011
Summary: We study the optimal design problem of finding the minimal energy configuration for a mixture of two conducting materials with a perimeter penalization of the unknown domain, when a volume constraint is added. We prove that minimizers of the constrained problem also minimize an unconstrained problem with a volume penalization for which ...
