Effects of Freeze-thaw and Hydraulic Compound Action on Soil Erosion in Northern Rocky Mountainous Area

open access: yesShuitu Baochi Xuebao
[Objective] This study aims to elucidate the impact of freeze-thaw cycles and hydraulic action on soil erosion in the northern rocky mountain regions under varying conditions.

Nutrient/TOR signaling controls adipose mitochondrial transcription factor A (TFAM) to regulate organismal growth in Drosophila

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Animals must match their growth rate to available nutrients. We show that in Drosophila larvae, the nutrient‐sensing TOR kinase controls growth by regulating levels of TFAM, a key regulator of mitochondrial function, in the adipose tissue. When nutrients are abundant, high TOR activity suppresses TFAM, lowering mitochondrial bioenergetic activity and ...

Rubber crumb used in concrete to provide freeze-thaw protection [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
This research has examined the use of rubber crumb, used as an additive to concrete that would provide maximum freeze-thaw protection to concrete. The rubber crumb as used in the paper was divided into five batches, with increasing particle size, graded

Freeze-thaw geochemically altered Mars’s surface [PDF]

open access: yes
Sulfate-rich sedimentary rocks explored by the Opportunity rover during its 14-year surface mission at Meridiani Planum provide an invaluable window into the thousands of sulfate deposits detected on Mars via remote sensing.

Peripheral lysosomes recruit PLEKHG3 to focal adhesions and restrain protrusion dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Proximity‐dependent labeling at the LAMTOR complex revealed the Rho GEF PLEKHG3 as a lysosome‐proximal protein directing the study toward the influence of lysosome positioning on actin dynamics and cell motility. We show that PLEKHG3 colocalizes with lysosomes at focal adhesion sites and observe that forced peripheral dispersion of lysosomes hinders ...

Effect of freeze-thaw cycling on grain size of biochar

open access: yesPLOS ONE, 2018
Biochar may improve soil hydrology by altering soil porosity, density, hydraulic conductivity, and water-holding capacity. These properties are associated with the grain size distributions of both soil and biochar, and therefore may change as biochar weathers.

Carbon Nanotubes and Resistance to Freeze-Thaw Cycles

open access: yesMaterials Sciences and Applications, 2021
The research of materials with good properties is one of the important concerns of scientists groups, and more again in region where materials are subjected to freeze and thaw cycles. In the case of this paper, it has been a matter of evaluating of the effect of carbon nanotubes on concrete resistance to freeze and thaw cycles.

Golgi enzymes are retrieved from the plasma membrane to the trans‐Golgi network

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Golgi enzymes are traditionally considered resident proteins retained within the Golgi apparatus. Here, we demonstrate that a subset transiently reaches the cell surface and is subsequently retrieved to the trans‐Golgi network via retrograde transport. Using a nanobody‐based toolkit, we uncover a dynamic trafficking cycle of several Golgi enzymes.

Influence of Freeze-Thaw Cycles on Mechanical Response of Levee Pavement

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, 2021
The freeze-thaw cycles cause deterioration in mechanical properties of levee soil and further endanger the pavement structure on the embankment. This study attempts to comprehensively understand the mechanical response of pavement after freeze-thaw ...

The Effect of Freeze/Thaw Cycles on the Stability of Compounds in DMSO

open access: yesSLAS Discovery, 2003
A diverse set of 320 compounds from the Procter & Gamble Pharmaceuticals organic compound repository was prepared as 20-mM DMSO solutions and stored at 4 degrees C under argon in pressurized canisters to simulate a low-humidity environment. The plates were subjected to 25 freeze/thaw cycles while being exposed to ambient atmospheric conditions after ...
