Unraveling LINE‐1 retrotransposition in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The novel RetroTest method allows the detection of L1 activation in clinical samples with low DNA input, providing global L1 activity and the identification of the L1 source element. We applied RetroTest to a real‐world cohort of HNSCC patients where we reported an early L1 activation, with more than 60% of T1 patients showing L1 activity.

Simultaneous inhibition of TRIM24 and TRIM28 sensitises prostate cancer cells to antiandrogen therapy, decreasing VEGF signalling and angiogenesis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
TRIM24 and TRIM28 are androgen receptor (AR) coregulators which exhibit increased expression with cancer progression. Both TRIM24 and TRIM28 combine to influence the response of castrate‐resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) cells to AR inhibitors by mediating AR signalling, regulation of MYC and upregulating VEGF to promote angiogenesis. Castrate‐resistant

Cryoablation: physical and molecular basis with putative immunological consequences

open access: yesInternational Journal of Hyperthermia, 2019
Cryoablation (CA) is unique as the singular energy deprivation therapy that impacts all cellular processes. CA is independent of cell cycle stage and degree of cellular stemness.

Low temperature and hardening effects on photosynthetic apparatus efficiency and survival of forage grass varieties

open access: yesPlant, Soil and Environment, 2014
Freezing tolerance is essential for perennial plants and ability to adapt to extreme temperature is crucial for their survival in many environments. Freezing tolerance of hardened and unhardened plants of Dactylis glomerata and Lolium perenne varieties ...

Application of the Generalized Clapeyron Equation to Freezing Point Depression and Unfrozen Water Content

open access: yesWater Resources Research, 2018
Freezing point and unfrozen water content are key parameters in modeling the heat and mass transfer under the cyclic change of atmosphere temperature.

EMT‐associated bias in the Parsortix® system observed with pancreatic cancer cell lines

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The Parsortix® system was tested for CTC enrichment using pancreatic cancer cell lines with different EMT phenotypes. Spike‐in experiments showed lower recovery of mesenchymal‐like cells. This was confirmed with an EMT‐inducible breast cancer cell line.

The effect of vitrification in open pulled straws on pregnancy rates after transfer of in vivoproduced bovine embryos

open access: yesVeterinární Medicína, 2006
The aim of this study was to compare pregnancy rates after transfer of in vivo produced embryos cryopreserved using open pulled straw (OPS) vitrification (Group V) or conventional freezing method as a control (Group C).

Comment on "Freezing by heating in a driven mesoscopic system"

open access: yes, 2002
We point out that the phenomenon ``heating by freezing'' discovered in nonequilibrium simulations by Helbing, et al. (PRL 84, 1240 (2000)) extends to equilibrium systems as well.
