The Effect of Low Temperature on Oilseed Rape in Vegetative and Reproductive Growth Stages [PDF]

open access: yesAgrotechniques in Industrial Crops
Low-temperature stress is a significant abiotic factor that adversely affects the growth and development of oilseed rape at various stages. This stress occurs in two forms: chilling and freezing.

Regulation of phenylpropanoid metabolism during moderate freezing and post-freezing recovery in Dendrobium officinale

open access: yesJournal of Plant Interactions, 2022
Freezing injury is a major environmental limiting factor affecting plant yield and geographical distribution. Little is known about the regulation of phenylpropanoid metabolism during freezing (FT) and post-freezing recovery (FR). Dendrobium officinale is

Effects of exogenous salicylic acid on physiological traits and CBF gene expression in peach floral organs under freezing stress [PDF]

open access: yesArchives of Biological Sciences, 2017
To elucidate the effects of exogenous salicylic acid (SA) treatment on the cold resistance of peach flower, the floral organs of two peach cultivars were treated with 20 mg/L SA and stored at 0°C for observation and sample collection.

Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

Nutrient/TOR signaling controls adipose mitochondrial transcription factor A (TFAM) to regulate organismal growth in Drosophila

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Animals must match their growth rate to available nutrients. We show that in Drosophila larvae, the nutrient‐sensing TOR kinase controls growth by regulating levels of TFAM, a key regulator of mitochondrial function, in the adipose tissue. When nutrients are abundant, high TOR activity suppresses TFAM, lowering mitochondrial bioenergetic activity and ...

Enhancing Freezing Stress Tolerance through Regulation of the Ubiquitin–Proteasome System in Saccharomyces cerevisiae

open access: yesFermentation
The baking industry is experiencing significant growth, primarily due to the widespread adoption of frozen dough baking. However, this process can negatively impact the fermentation ability of yeast, as freezing can induce stress in yeast cells.

Autophagy and mitophagy in pancreatic β‐cell homeostasis and their involvement in diabetes pathophysiology

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This review focuses on the role of autophagy and mitophagy in maintaining pancreatic β‐cell function and homeostasis. We discuss how genetic defects affecting these pathways contribute to the development of type 1, type 2, monogenic, and gestational diabetes. We further explore their potential as therapeutic targets. Created in BioRender.

Partial depletion of plasminogen activator inhibitor‐1 decreases subcutaneous fat cell hypertrophy and liver cholesterol in high‐fat‐fed female mice

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Obesity raises blood levels of PAI‐1, a protein linked to metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatotic liver disease in people with obesity. In female mice fed a high‐fat diet, partially lowering PAI‐1 led to smaller subcutaneous fat cells and lower liver cholesterol, without changing body weight or insulin sensitivity.

Ligand‐dependent transcriptional heterogeneity in cell cycle gene expression delays G1/S entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
EGF and HRG induce distinct G1/S progression programs in ErbB2‐amplified BT474 breast cancer cells. Despite activating the potent ErbB2–ErbB3 heterodimer, HRG does not accelerate cell‐cycle entry. Instead, EGF promotes earlier restriction‐point passage via ERK–FOS signaling, whereas HRG activates the AKT–MYC axis, driving transcriptional heterogeneity ...

Comparison of transcriptome and metabolome analysis revealed differences in cold resistant metabolic pathways in different apple cultivars under low temperature stress

open access: yesHorticultural Plant Journal, 2023
Freezing injury in winter is an important abiotic stress that seriously affects plant growth and development. Deciduous fruit trees resist freezing injury by inducing dormancy.
