Fresh Equatorial Jets

open access: yesJournal of Physical Oceanography, 1994
Abstract A vertically sheared eastward jet in the equatorial Pacific in late 1991 and early 1992 carried relatively fresh water from the western Pacific overriding the saltier surface layer of the central region. Salinity anomalies of about −1.0 psu were observed over a period of several months in a surface layer 50 m thick near the equator. Below this

In vitro properties of patient serum predict clinical outcome after high dose rate brachytherapy of hepatocellular carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Following high dose rate brachytherapy (HDR‐BT) for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), patients were classified as responders and nonresponders. Post‐therapy serum induced increased BrdU incorporation and Cyclin E expression of Huh7 and HepG2 cells in nonresponders, but decreased levels in responders.

Effect of modified atmosphere packaging on the shelf life of chilled Ccommon carp (Cyprinus carpio) steaks: chemical and sensory attributes

open access: yesCzech Journal of Food Sciences, 2018
The effect of modified atmosphere packaging (MAP 1 - 80% O2 + 20% CO2 and MAP 2 - 90% CO2 + 10% N2) on selected chemical and sensory parameters of common carp steaks stored at 3 ± 0.5°C, and determination of the shelf life of the products was studied in ...

Tensors, !-graphs, and non-commutative quantum structures

open access: yes, 2014
Categorical quantum mechanics (CQM) and the theory of quantum groups rely heavily on the use of structures that have both an algebraic and co-algebraic component, making them well-suited for manipulation using diagrammatic techniques.

Adaptaquin is selectively toxic to glioma stem cells through disruption of iron and cholesterol metabolism

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Adaptaquin selectively kills glioma stem cells while sparing differentiated brain cells. Transcriptomic and proteomic analyses show Adaptaquin disrupts iron and cholesterol homeostasis, with iron chelation amplifying cytotoxicity via cholesterol depletion, mitochondrial dysfunction, and elevated reactive oxygen species.

A Decidable Characterization of a Graphical Pi-calculus with Iterators

open access: yes, 2010
This paper presents the Pi-graphs, a visual paradigm for the modelling and verification of mobile systems. The language is a graphical variant of the Pi-calculus with iterators to express non-terminating behaviors.

Predictors of response and rational combinations for the novel MCL‐1 inhibitor MIK665 in acute myeloid leukemia

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study characterizes the responses of primary acute myeloid leukemia (AML) patient samples to the MCL‐1 inhibitor MIK665. The results revealed that monocytic differentiation is associated with MIK665 sensitivity. Conversely, elevated ABCB1 expression is a potential biomarker of resistance to the treatment, which can be overcome by the combination ...

Effects of Packaging with Different Oxygen Resistance Materials on the Quality of Fresh Pork

open access: yesShipin gongye ke-ji
To evaluate the effect of different resistance oxygen of packaging materials opposite preservation of fresh meat, pork was packaged with 4 kinds of oxygen resistance grade packaging materials, high (HORP, 1.70 cm3/(m2·24 h·0.1 MPa)), medium (MORP, 23.95 ...

Symmetry-breaking phase transition in a dynamical decision model

open access: yes, 2011
We consider a simple decision model in which a set of agents randomly choose one of two competing shops selling the same perishable products (typically food).

Adaptive-FRESH Filtering [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Adaptive filters are self-designing systems for information extraction which rely for their operation on a recursive algorithm (Haykin, 2001). They find application in environments where the optimum filter cannot be applied because of lack of knowledge about the signal characteristics and/or the data to be processed.
