From Lab to Landscape: Environmental Biohybrid Robotics for Ecological Futures

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This Perspective explores environmental biohybrid robotics, integrating living tissues, microorganisms, and insects for operation in real‐world ecosystems. It traces the leap from laboratory experiments to forests, wetlands, and urban environments and discusses key challenges, development pathways, and opportunities for ecological monitoring and ...

Cross Kingdom Metabolic Engineering Paradigm Elevating Sustainable Protein Production

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Confronting the dual crisis of escalating global protein demand and unsustainable agriculture necessitates transformative solutions. Here, we pioneer evolutionary insights from maize nitrogen optimization via asparagine synthetase (ASNS) to rewire metabolism in Pichia pastoris.

The complete mitochondrial genome of two different colour Luciobarbus capito (Cypriniformes, Cyprinidae)

open access: yesMitochondrial DNA. Part B. Resources, 2018
We sequenced and characterized the complete mitochondrial genome from normal colour (grey black) and mutant colour (orangey red) of Luciobarbus capito. Both mitogenomes contained the typical complement of 13 protein-coding genes, 22 transfer RNAs (tRNAs),

Compared to Fishmeal, Dietary Soybean Meal Improves the Reproductive Performance of Female Yellow Catfish (Pelteobagrus fulvidraco) Broodstock

open access: yesAquaculture Nutrition, 2023
To investigate the effects of different dietary protein sources on the reproductive performance of female broodstock, yellow catfish (Pelteobagrus fulvidraco) were fed with three experimental diets using fishmeal (FM), soybean meal (SBM), and rapeseed ...

Two Routes to Land: Genomic Underpinnings of Parallel Aerial Egg Deposition in Aquatic Old‐World Pila and New‐World Pomacea (Ampullariidae)

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Comparative genomics of Gondwana‐diverged Pila and Pomacea reveals parallel evolution of aerial oviposition. Convergent chromosomal rearrangements reshape regulatory landscapes within topologically associating domains. Lineage‐specific gene family expansions and viral‐derived perivitelline proteins (PV1) underpin desiccation resistance.

THE PERIODICITY OF FRESHWATER ALGAE

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Botany, 1916
The normal life of a freshwater alga such as a Spirogyra consists of a period of germination of spores, a period of growth and development, and a period of sexual or asexual reproduction, commonly followed by a period of dormancy. An Oedogonium has in addition to these periods one or more phases during the vegetative period when zoospores are produced.

Thermally Processable, Transparent, Mechanically Tunable and Robust Bioplastics From Wastepaper

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Unlike conventional inefficient or low‐value wastepaper recycling, a directional transformation strategy is employed to convert whole wastepaper into intact bioplastics with tunable mechanical properties in our work. These bioplastics can be processed into flexible bags or rigid containers and exhibit high transparency, water resistance, repairability,

Student Singing and Song Books in Scotland

open access: yesScottish Studies
Students have always sung in the four Ancient Universities of Scotland. They were much later than German and North American universities, and a little later than England, in arranging the compilation and publication of national song books for students ...

Solar‐Driven Bifunctional Adsorption‐Storage Films for Ultra‐Fast Dehumidification and Freshwater Supply in Low‐carbon Buildings

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Bifunctional adsorption‐storage films enable autonomous indoor humidity regulation and freshwater harvesting, rapidly decreasing relative humidity from 90.7% to 21.6% within one hour while producing 1.1 kg·m−2·day−1 of water, offering a passive route towards energy‐efficient humidity control and sustainable indoor environments. ABSTRACT Indoor humidity

Vacancy‐Driven Ni Exsolution in Prussian Blue Analogues Creates Cooperative Defect–Metal Sites for Alkaline Hydrogen Evolution

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Multimetal Prussian blue analogues (PBAs) are converted by low‐temperature Ar annealing into a cavity/CN‐vacancy architecture that triggers in situ Ni exsolution, creating dense Ni‐PBA interfacial motifs. These motifs optimize water dissociation and H* adsorption in alkaline media, delivering markedly accelerated HER kinetics and long‐term stability ...
