Stability evaluation and validation of appropriate reference genes for real-time PCR expression analysis of immune genes in the rohu (Labeo rohita) skin following argulosis

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2023
Argulosis is one of the most unrestrained economically significant freshwater fish ectoparasitic diseases. Proper selection or normalization of the best reference gene governs the accuracy of results of gene expression studies using real-time PCR ...

Natural Anionic Interfacial Reconstruction for Suppressing Pitting Corrosion Enables Durable Seawater Zinc‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
In situ electrochemically induced molecular sieve‐alginate interface layer can suppress chloride‐induced pitting corrosion, hydrogen evolution, and dendrite growth, while regulating zinc ion transport and deposition, thereby protecting the zinc anode in seawater electrolyte.

A Highly Hydrophilic Air Electrode With Water‐Induced Surface Reconstruction for Efficient Reversible Protonic Ceramic Cell at Low Water Partial Pressures

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
This work demonstrates a new strategy for reversible protonic ceramic cells (R‐PCCs). By developing highly hydrophilic oxides, efficient operation is achieved under low water vapor pressures while maintaining high performance and stability. This approach addresses the challenge of hydrogen production in freshwater‐scarce regions.

The feasibility of developing multi-taxa indicators for landscape scale assessment of freshwater systems

open access: yes, 2011
The use of bird assemblages as wetland indicators is now well established in the UK.  An indicator based on a single taxonomic group can, however, have limitations.  Conversely, a multi-taxa approach can potentially provide a more robust ...

Built‐In Electric Field Regulated Electron Transport Channels of FeP Supported Os for Ampere‐Level Seawater Electrolysis

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
This work presents an Os/FeP heterostructure catalyst with EMSI and successfully utilizes the BEF to further modulate electron transfer through Os‐P‐Fe channels, proving an effective approach of developing low‐cost electrocatalysts with remarkable HER activity in ampere‐level seawater electrolysis. ABSTRACT Developing cost‐effective and robust hydrogen

British freshwater malacostracan "shrimps"

open access: yes, 2010
This short divertissement touches lightly on the vagaries of vernacularnames for culinary and other crustaceans, gives a thumbnail sketch ofthe distribution of the common and less well-known freshwater"shrimps" in the British Isles, and speculates on ...

A Compact Hollow Fiber Electrode Assembly Architecture for Continuous Electrochemical Marine Carbon Dioxide Removal

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
A coaxial, membrane‐integrated hollow fiber electrode assembly (HFEA) is developed for continuous marine carbon mineralization. By utilizing a sub‐millimeter inter‐electrode gap, the HFEA minimizes Ohmic losses, achieving 50% energy reduction and over 85% DIC removal.

Kinetics of pIgR and IgM immune responses in snakehead (Channa argus) to inactivated Aeromonas hydrophila via immersion and intraperitoneal injection

open access: yesScientific Reports
This research was intended to investigate the kinetics of polymeric immunoglobulin receptor (pIgR) and its ligand immunoglobulins (Ig) in snakehead (Channa argus) through different vaccine delivery methods. First, we employed Oxford Nanopore Technologies

Freshwater crabs in Africa

open access: yes, 2010
Freshwater crabs are a strangely neglected component of the world'sinland aquatic ecosystems. Despite their wide distribution throughout thetropical and warm temperate zones of the world, and their great diversity, their role in the ecology of freshwaters
