Recovery Following Harvesting of Ascophyllum nodosum Forests: Impacts on Populations and Canopy Composition

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 7, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Our overall aim was to assess the sustainability of exploitation of slow‐growing, long‐lived intertidal Ascophyllum nodosum forests. They have been mechanically harvested for almost 50 years in Breiðafjörður, Iceland, but there is a lack of long‐term local research as various local factors can impact the recovery time of Ascophyllum.

The systematic and biogeographical status of Fredius reflexifrons (Ortmann, 1897) and Fredius fittkaui (Bott, 1967) (Crustacea: Brachyura: Pseudothelphusidae) from the Amazon and Atlantic Guianas River basins [PDF]

open access: yesActa Amazonica, 2002
There is considerable confusion in the literature regarding the systematic position and distribution of two pseudothelphusid crabs originally described as Potamocarcinus reflexifrons Ortmann, 1897 and Potamocarcinus reflexifrons fittkaui Bott, 1967, and ...

The Complete Mitogenome of the Estuarine Clam Potamocorbula amurensis (Corbulidae, Myida) and Its Implications for Phylogeny and Adaptation

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 7, July 2026.
This study reports the first complete mitogenome of the estuarine clam Potamocorbula amurensis, revealing its phylogenetic position as a sister group to the Myidae–Dreissenidae clade. Molecular dating indicates a Middle Jurassic divergence, and positive selection was detected in the nad5 gene, suggesting mitochondrial adaptations to osmotic stress in ...

open access: yes, 2013

Humic Acids and EDTA Added to Marine Sediments Improve eDNA Detectability

open access: yesEnvironmental DNA, Volume 8, Issue 4, July‐August 2026.
Environmental DNA detectability in sediments increased with the addition of humic acid sodium salts prior to lysis. The addition of EDTA before lysis yielded a similar improvement, suggesting that various chelating agents can enhance eDNA recovery and detection. ABSTRACT Sediments are complex and challenging matrices for DNA detections.
