Velocity dependence of joint friction in robotic manipulators with gear transmissions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
This paper analyses the problem of modelling joint friction in robotic manipulators with gear transmissions at joint velocities varying from close to zero until their maximum appearing values.

Using the fractional interaction law to model the impact dynamics in arbitrary form of multiparticle collisions

open access: yes, 2004
Using the molecular dynamics method, we examine a discrete deterministic model for the motion of spherical particles in three-dimensional space. The model takes into account multiparticle collisions in arbitrary forms.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Dynamics of Elastic Excitable Media

open access: yes, 1999
The Burridge-Knopoff model of earthquake faults with viscous friction is equivalent to a van der Pol-FitzHugh-Nagumo model for excitable media with elastic coupling.

An extended LuGre friction model incorporating frictional aging [PDF]

open access: yesPAMM, 2016
AbstractIn this contribution, the LuGre model is extended and the effect of frictional aging is incorporated using the state variable approach. The adapted friction model is used in combination with a single‐degree‐of‐freedom oscillator to investigate the basic effects on the stick‐slip amplitude and period. Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Multi-scale friction modeling for manufacturing processes: The boundary layer regime [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
This paper presents a multi-scale friction model for largescale forming simulations. A friction framework has been developed including the effect of surface changes due to normal loading and straining the underlying bulk material.

Financial Frictions in Macroeconomic Models [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
In recent decades, macroeconomic researchers have looked to incorporate financial intermediaries explicitly into business-cycle models. These modeling developments have helped us to understand the role of the financial sector in the transmission of policy and external shocks into macroeconomic dynamics. They also have helped us to understand better the

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Modeling and Control of a Road Wheel Actuation Module in Steer-by-Wire System

open access: yesActuators
Since the steer-by-wire system removes the mechanical connection and uses electrical signals to drive the system, it has the disadvantage of being less stable in the failure of parts or systems.
