Size factors in apple fruit

Scientia Horticulturae, 1980
Abstract Eight ‘Golden Delicious’ apple trees on an experimental plot were systematically thinned to give different numbers of fruit per spur, per branch, and per tree. At harvest, fruits were weighed individually and their positions on spurs and branches noted. Trunk and branch girths were measured.

Fruit Selectivity in Anthropoid Primates: Size Matters

International Journal of Primatology, 2020
Certain features of both extant and fossil anthropoid primates have been interpreted as adaptations to ripe fruit foraging and feeding particularly spatulate incisors and trichromatic color vision. Here, we approach the question of anthropoid fruit foraging adaptations in light of the sensory and mechanical properties of anthropoid-consumed fruits in ...

The components of fruit size in strawberry

Scientia Horticulturae, 1974
Abstract High Correlation coefficients have been found in the application of the formula: Fresh weight of ripe berry (g) = (Total number of achenes−C)F (Number of achenes per cm 2 of surface to data for a large number of strawberries from nine cultivars. Of the terms in the equation (Total no.

Fruit size and clutch size in wild Ceratitis capitata

Kiwifruit fruit size distributions

New Zealand Journal of Crop and Horticultural Science, 1989
Abstract The distribution of fruit weight at harvest from 0.5 ha blocks of kiwifruit in the Kerikeri district is shown to closely approximate a Normal distribution with a constant standard deviation of 20.5 g. The standard deviation changed less than 2 g between seasons despite wide variations in the mean fruit weight with crop ...

EFFECTS OF MANUAL AND CHEMICAL FRUIT THINNING ON FRUIT SIZE OF 'SIMETO' MANDARIN

Acta Horticulturae, 2004
Simeto' mandarin hybrid was obtained from a cross between 'Miho' satsuma and 'Avana seedless' mandarin at University of Catania. 'Simeto' mandarin is very productive with excellent fruit quality, but its heavy crop often causes complete inhibition of vegetative growth and consequently induces alternate bearing.

Peach fruit growth in relation to the leaf-to-fruit ratio, early fruit size and fruit position

The Journal of Horticultural Science and Biotechnology, 2005
SummaryTo study the influences of assimilate availability, early fruit size and fruit position on fruit growth, experiments were conducted on an early-maturing peach (Prunus persica) cv.‘Alexandra’ in 1992 and a late-maturing peach cv.‘Suncrest’ in 1993. Leaf-to-fruit ratio (LFR) was used to manipulate assimilate availability.

Fruit growth model, thermal requirements and fruit size determinants in papaya cultivars grown under subtropical conditions

Scientia Horticulturae, 2019
Papaya is a tropical fruit crop that produces large-sized berries of high nutritional value. Due to climatic restrains, papaya cultivation in Europe is restricted to limited areas of South East Spain where, even so, it must be grown under protected ...

Effective modification through transmission Vis/NIR spectra affected by fruit size to improve the prediction of moldy apple core

Infrared physics & technology, 2019
Moldy core is an internal disease of apples that can be detected using transmission near-infrared spectroscopy. However, the transmission spectra of apples are affected by the size of the fruit (i.e., the optical path length).

Arabidopsis EOD3 homologue PaCYP78A6 affects fruit size and is involved in sweet cherry (Prunus avium L.) fruit ripening

Scientia Horticulturae, 2019
Sweet cherry (Prunus avium L.) is an important commercial fruit crop cultivated in temperate areas. Fruit size is an influential agronomical trait in the modern horticultural breeding of sweet cherry because it directly affects the plant’s economic value.
