Relation Between Fruit Size and Abscission of Young Orange Fruits
Botanical Gazette, 19271. The percentage loss of moisture from young oranges and grapefruit decreases rapidly as the fruits increase in size. This change doubtless is due largely to the decrease in proportionate surface area as the fruit increases in diameter. 2. Observations on tagged fruits confirm the common knowledge that young citrus fruits readily undergo abscission up

Peach fruit growth in relation to the leaf-to-fruit ratio, early fruit size and fruit position
The Journal of Horticultural Science and Biotechnology, 2005SummaryTo study the influences of assimilate availability, early fruit size and fruit position on fruit growth, experiments were conducted on an early-maturing peach (Prunus persica) cv.‘Alexandra’ in 1992 and a late-maturing peach cv.‘Suncrest’ in 1993. Leaf-to-fruit ratio (LFR) was used to manipulate assimilate availability.

Harvest date and fruit size affect postharvest softening of apple fruit
The Journal of Horticultural Science and Biotechnology, 2002SummaryThe influence of harvest date and fruit size on the three phases of softening for Royal Gala and Cox’s Orange Pippin apple cultivars is currently not known. During storage at 0.5 or 3°C, late-harvested fruit had a shorter initial slow softening phase and required less time before the internal ethylene concentration exceeded 1.5 μl–1 than fruit ...

Fruit color and fruit size of bird-disseminated plants in Japan
Vegetatio, 1996Fruit color, fruit size and phenology of bird-disseminated plants were examined in different climatic zones of Japan and the relationships between the plants and frugivorous birds were disscussed. Black fruit was the most common in warm-temperate areas and red was the most common in cool-temperate and subarctic zones. Red was more dominant in the lower

Fruit‐Size, Gape Width, and the Diets of Fruit‐Eating Birds
Ecology, 1985In most animals, especially those that must swallow food items whole, prey size is related to predator size. This paper examines gape limitation and the influence of fruit size on diet in fruit—eating birds, drawing on data gathered over a 5—yr period on 70 bird species and 171 plant species in the lower montane forests of Monteverde, Costa Rica.
