Dynamics modeling of ferromagnetic shape memory alloys (FSMA) actuators

SPIE Proceedings, 2006
FSMAs like Ni 2 MnGa have attracted significant attention over the last few years. As actuators, these materials offer high energy density, large stroke, and high bandwidth. These properties make FSMAs potential candidates for developing Solid-Fluid Hybrid Actuations (SFHA), where the FSMA actuator provides the mechanical energy by the linear ...

Effective magnetic properties of Fe-NiTi (FSMA) particulate composite

SPIE Proceedings, 2005
Ferromagnetic Shape Memory Alloy (FSMA) particulate composites are processed using Spark Plasma Sintering (SPS) with various weight fractions of NiTi (51 at% Ni) and Fe powders. The magnetic properties of these composite specimens were experimentally evaluated using Vibration Sample Magnetometry (VSM).

Frequency response of single-crystal Ni-Mn-Ga FSMAs

SPIE Proceedings, 2003
Magnetic-field-induced strain in single crystals of Ni-Mn-Ga magnetic shape memory alloys were studied under cyclic field conditions using a compression spring to reset the sample as H→0. Low frequency actuation strain of 2.5% degraded to about 1.5% at an actuation frequency of 500 Hz. Two resonant-like features appear in the e(f) data, which appear to

Design of a new FSMA-based actuator for nanopositioning applications

SPIE Proceedings, 2012
Ferromagnetic shape memory alloys (FSMAs) are a special type of smart materials which can commonly display strains of about 6 % by applying an external magnetic field. The large magnetic induced strain and the possibility of non-contact actuation make those materials promising active elements for actuators.

Electronic excitation induced phase transformation in FSMA thin film

Vacuum, 2013
Abstract The influence of 120 MeV Ag ion irradiation on the structural and magnetic properties of Ni–Mn–Sn ferromagnetic shape memory alloy thin film is investigated. X-ray diffraction data confirms the phase transformation from martensite to austenite phase at a fluence of 1 × 10 13  ions/cm 2 , which is further supported by the change in surface ...

FSMA: Regulating Prevention, Detection and Response, and Imported Foods

Cereal Foods World, 2012
Although there are movements around the world encouraging people to consume foods produced close to where they live, to consume foods produced and handled using more environmentally friendly methods, or to simply be aware of where their food comes from, the reality is that accessing ingredients and producing and shipping foods is a complex process, and
