An Efficient and Robust Numerical Solution of the Full‐Order Multiscale Model of Lithium‐Ion Battery

open access: yesMathematical Problems in Engineering, Volume 2018, Issue 1, 2018., 2018
We propose a novel and efficient numerical approach for solving the pseudo two‐dimensional multiscale model of the Li‐ion cell dynamics based on first principles, describing the ion diffusion through the electrolyte and the porous electrodes, electric potential distribution, and Butler‐Volmer kinetics.

The regions of solvability for some three point problem

open access: yesMathematical Modelling and Analysis, 2013
The solvability results are established for the boundary value problem , where x + = max{x, 0}, x - = max{-x, 0}, h is a bounded nonlinearity. The existence results are based of the knowledge of the spectrum for the problem with h ≡ 0.

Periodic Solutions of Duffing Equation with an Asymmetric Nonlinearity and a Deviating Argument

open access: yesAbstract and Applied Analysis, Volume 2013, Issue 1, 2013., 2013
We study the existence of periodic solutions of the second‐order differential equation x′′ + ax+ − bx− + g(x(t − τ)) = p(t), where a, b are two constants satisfying 112/a+/b=/n, n ∈ N, τ is a constant satisfying 0 ≤ τ < 2π, g, p : R → R are continuous, and p is 2π‐periodic.

Solvability of a one-dimensional quasilinear problem under nonresonance conditions on the potential

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Qualitative Theory of Differential Equations, 2009
Problem of the type $-\Delta_{p}u=f(u)+h(x) \textrm{ in } (a, b) $ with $u=0$ on $ \{a,b\} $ is solved under nonresonance conditions stated with respect to the first eigenvalue and the first curve in the Fučik spectrum of $(-\Delta_{p},W_{0}^{1,p}(a,b))$,

Boundary Value Problems for a Super‐Sublinear Asymmetric Oscillator: The Exact Number of Solutions

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mathematics and Mathematical Sciences, Volume 2013, Issue 1, 2013., 2013
Properties of asymmetric oscillator described by the equation x′′=−λ(x+)p+μ(x−)q (i), where p ≥ 1 and 0 < q ≤ 1, are studied. A set of (λ, μ) such that the problem (i), x(0) = 0 = x(1) (ii), and |x′(0)| = α (iii) have a nontrivial solution, is called α‐spectrum. We give full description of α‐spectra in terms of solution sets and solution surfaces.

Variational Methods for NLEV Approximation Near a Bifurcation Point

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mathematics and Mathematical Sciences, Volume 2012, Issue 1, 2012., 2012
We review some more and less recent results concerning bounds on nonlinear eigenvalues (NLEV) for gradient operators. In particular, we discuss the asymptotic behaviour of NLEV (as the norm of the eigenvector tends to zero) in bifurcation problems from the line of trivial solutions, considering perturbations of linear self‐adjoint operators in a ...

“STRANDED ON THE SHORES OF HISTORY”? MONUMENTS AND (ART‐)HISTORICAL AWARENESS

open access: yesHistory and Theory, Volume 64, Issue 3, Page 338-358, September 2025.
ABSTRACT Can past agents deliberately influence our historical awareness by designing objects’ appearances and sending them to us down the stream of time? We know they have certainly tried to do so by raising monuments. But according to an influential narrative, the efforts of the “monumentalists” are destined to fail: no monument can keep a legacy ...

Sign‐Changing Solutions for Nonlinear Elliptic Problems Depending on Parameters

open access: yesInternational Journal of Differential Equations, Volume 2010, Issue 1, 2010., 2010
The study of multiple solutions for quasilinear elliptic problems under Dirichlet or nonlinear Neumann type boundary conditions has received much attention over the last decades. The main goal of this paper is to present multiple solutions results for elliptic inclusions of Clarke′s gradient type under Dirichlet boundary condition involving the p ...

Education and inequality: an international perspective

open access: yesFiscal Studies, Volume 45, Issue 3, Page 429-454, September 2024.
Abstract In this paper, we summarise the existing literature and present new empirical evidence in order to address the questions of whether educational expansion is an effective tool for reducing inequality and whether some educational systems have better associations with lower inequality and others worse.
