On the basis of some assumptions concerning gastric emptying a theory of gastric function is developed which explains the known facts —chiefly the emptying of liquids according to an exponential law. On the basis of this theory an equation is derived which relates the rate of secretion to the quantity of liquid retained in the stomach after a certain ...

Embedding wave function theory in density functional theory
The Journal of Chemical Physics, 2006We present a framework for embedding a highly accurate coupled-cluster calculation within a larger density functional calculation. We use a perturbative buffer to help insulate the coupled-cluster region from the rest of the system. Regions are defined, not in real space, but in Hilbert space, though connection between the two can be made by spatial ...

The stability function of a theory
Journal of Symbolic Logic, 1978AbstractLet T be a complete theory with infinite models in a countable language. The stability function gT(κ) is defined as the supremum of the number of types over models of T of power κ. It is proved that there are only six possible stability functions, namely κ, κ + 2ω, κω, ded κ, (ded κ)ω, 2κ.

On the Topological Theory of Functions
Canadian Journal of Mathematics, 1951The present paper constitutes a continuation of the ideas and methods of M. Morse and M. Heins [1]. As in that work the subject treated is the theory of deformation classes of meromorphic functions and interior transformations. There the functions considered were defined over the open disc <

The theory of the Gödel functionals
Journal of Symbolic Logic, 1976In [2] we described an arithmetic theory of constructions (ATC) and showed that first-order intuitionistic arithmetic (HA) could be interpreted in it. In [3] we went on to show that the interpretation of HA in ATC is faithful. The purpose of the present paper is to apply these ideas to intuitionistic arithmetic in all finite types.

On the theory of automorphic functions
The Annals of Mathematics, 1959We know that the elliptic modular function j(z) gives the birational invariant of the elliptic curve with the analytic modulus z, and that the elliptic modular functions belonging to the congruence-subgroups are obtained from the values of elliptic functions at the points of finite order on elliptic curves.

Classical phenomenological description of nucleation is based on the capillarity approximation treating all droplets (clusters) as if they were macroscopic objects characterized by a well defined rigid boundary of radius \(R\) with a bulk liquid density inside \(R\) and bulk vapor density outside \(R\).

The Holding Function of Theory
Journal of the American Psychoanalytic Association, 2003As multiple theoretical models contend on the American analytic scene, the holding function of theory emerges as a unifying theme. In addition to supplying an intellectual superstructure for the working analyst, theory provides a psychological presence—a sense of conviction, affective stability, reassurance, and self-esteem— that makes effective ...

Density functional theory for superconductors
International Journal of Quantum Chemistry, 1988A density-functional theory for superconductors at arbitrary temperature is described. It leads to equations of the Kohn-Sham type, which incorporate exchange and correlation effects into the Bogoliubov-de Gennes equations for an inhomogeneous superconductor.
