Functional cognitive disorder: Beyond pseudodementia

open access: yesNeurology Perspectives
Introduction: Many patients with cognitive symptoms, such as subjective memory complaints, may in fact have functional cognitive disorder. Development: This review explores various aspects of functional cognitive disorder.

Self-perceived functional impairment or disability in Delusional Disorder – Case Reports

open access: yesEuropean Psychiatry, 2022
Introduction Delusional disorder (DD) is a psychotic disorder with an estimated prevalence of less than one percent, traditionally characterized by systematized delusional ideas with no cognitive deterioration. However, some studies have been reporting ...

Exercise Capacity, Physical Activity, Fatigue, and Neurocognitive Function in Adult Survivors of Childhood Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Adult survivors of childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) are at risk of reduced exercise capacity, decreased physical activity levels, persistent fatigue, and neurocognitive deficits. The aim was to investigate exercise capacity and physical activity levels of adult survivors of childhood ALL and their associations with ...

Dysfunction between dorsal caudate and salience network associated with impaired cognitive flexibility in obsessive-compulsive disorder: A resting-state fMRI study

open access: yesNeuroImage: Clinical, 2019
Background: Impaired cognitive flexibility has been implicated in the genetic basis of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). Recent endophenotype studies of OCD showed neural inefficiency in the cognitive control network and interference by the limbic ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

The human gut microbiome across the life course

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Despite significant individual variation and continuous change throughout life, the human gut microbiome follows some life stage‐specific trends. This article provides a brief overview of how gut microbiome composition shifts across different phases of life. Created in BioRender. Özkurt, E. (2026) https://BioRender.com/8q4nrnc.

Microbiome−host proteostasis crosstalk—An emerging perspective on mechanisms and interventions toward healthy longevity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Proteostasis and the gut microbiota play a key role in shaping host physiology. Microbiota‐derived metabolites, vitamins, and RNA modulate host proteostasis. Findings from model systems, including C. elegans, indicate microbes can either stabilize or disrupt host proteostasis.

Microbiome‐blood–brain barrier interactions in aging — mechanisms and therapeutic potential

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Aging reshapes the gut microbiome (↓SCFA‐producing commensals; ↑pro‐inflammatory outputs), shifting circulating metabolites (↓SCFAs; ↑LPS, ↑TMAO, ↑PAA) that act at the BBB to increase nonspecific transcytosis, alter transport, and promote astrocyte reactivity, heightening brain vulnerability.
