Specification Testing in Nonlinear Time Series with Long-Range Dependence [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper proposes a model specification testing procedure for parametric specification of the conditional mean function in a nonlinear time series model with long–range dependence.

THE ROLE OF CARDIOVASCULAR MULTIMORBIDITY IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF RISK OF RECURRENT ISCHEMIC STROKE AND ADVERSE FUNCTIONAL OUTCOMES IN ELDERLY PATIENTS

open access: yesCentral Asian Journal of Medical Hypotheses and Ethics
Background: Cardiovascular multimorbidity is highly prevalent in ageing populations and is a key determinant of stroke risk and long-term disability.

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Heterogeneity, State Dependence and Health [PDF]

open access: yes
In this paper, we use longitudinal data on Self-Reported Health Status from the Panel Study of Income Dynamics to estimate a model of the evolution of health over the life-cycle.

Bivariate stochastic modeling of functional response with natural mortality [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
A correction due to Abbott (1925) is the standard method of dealing with control mortality in insect bioassay to estimate the mortality of an insect conditional on control mortality not having occurred.

Estado de salud y utilización de recursos sanitarios de una población de ancianos atendidos en domicilio Health conditions and use of social care resources in a population of the elderly taken care at home

open access: yesGerokomos, 2007
La población de personas mayores, respecto a la población general en España, representa un 15,4%, proporción que aumentará en el futuro, sobre todo en mayores de 80 años. La atención domiciliaria de esta población es alternativa a su institucionalización,

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Unobserved Factors Linking Functional Decline and Depression Among the Oldest Americans [PDF]

open access: yes
This study considers the dependence between functional decline and depression in a nationally representative sample of older Americans from the Survey on Assets and Health Dynamics among the Oldest Old (AHEAD) covering the years from 1993 to 2002 ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.
