Functional equivalence in the film adaptation of Ian McEwan's Atonement

open access: yes, 2022
The aim of this diploma thesis is the analysis of the film adaptation of Ian McEwan's novel Atonement that was directed by Joe Wright and written by Christopher Hampton in 2007.

Determinantally equivalent nonzero functions

open access: yesDiscrete Mathematics
We study the problem raised in [Marco Stevens, Equivalent symmetric kernels of determinantal point processes, RMTA, 10(03):2150027, 2021] concerning the extension of its main result to the more general (potentially non-symmetric) setting. We construct a counterexample disproving the conjecture proposed in the paper, and subsequently solve it under some

Tumour‐proximal deep serum proteomics identifies biomarkers associated with ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
New biomarkers are needed for early ovarian cancer detection. Ovarian (tumour‐proximal) and peripheral vein serum from healthy women and patients with benign or malignant tumours underwent nanoparticle‐enriched deep proteomics. Ovarian serum yielded more protein identifications and revealed tumour‐reflective signatures.

The Strategic Equivalence of Games with Unawareness [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
An equivalence relation is more transparent when complemented by anexplicit specification of the set of transformations under which equivalenceis preserved.

Problem Decomposition Method to Compute an Optimal Cover for a Set of Functional Dependencies [PDF]

open access: yesDatabase Systems Journal, 2011
The paper proposes a problem decomposition method for building optimal cover for a set of functional dependencies to decrease the solving time. At the beginning, the paper includes an overview of the covers of functional dependencies.

The impact of leukocyte‐associated RNA retention on platelet RNA‐based cancer detection

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Platelets carry RNA signals that may help detect cancer, but platelet samples can also retain RNA from white blood cells. We found that this retained white blood cell signal did not significantly affect machine learning cancer classification, suggesting that the cancer‐related RNA signal in platelets is largely independent of leukocyte‐associated RNA ...

Versatile vector tools for efficient protein screening across multiple expression systems

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
A unified vector toolkit enables rapid protein expression screening across E. coli, insect, and mammalian cells. A single primer pair amplifies the target gene, which is inserted into any vector via a standardized interface. This streamlined workflow eliminates repeated cloning steps, accelerating the identification of optimal expression conditions for

Quantifying functionally equivalent species and ecological network dissimilarity with optimal transport distances

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution
Quantifying the structure and dynamics of species interactions in ecological communities is fundamental to studying ecology and evolution. While there are numerous approaches to analysing ecological networks, there is not yet an approach that can (1 ...

Rendering Shakespeare’s Othello Code-Switching into Arabic in the Light of Halliday’s Grammar and House’s Equivalence

open access: yesAl-Mağallah Al-ʿilmiyyaẗ Li Kulliyyaẗ Al-Adāb - Ǧāmiʿaẗ Asyūṭ
Translating William Shakespeare's Othello's code-switching demands a complex understanding of its social, cultural, and communicative functions in the play, which frequently resist direct equivalence within the target language.

Small RNA pathways in mammalian oocytes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Three distinct small RNA pathways operate in mammalian oocytes: RNAi interference (RNAi), the microRNA (miRNA) pathway, and the PIWI‐associated RNA (piRNA) pathway. These pathways use small RNAs to guide sequence‐specific repression and contribute to oocyte biology by targeting genes and mobile elements or appear insignificant since different ...
