IEICE ESS Fundamentals Review, 2010 コンピュータと安全との関係は，大きく分けて二つの側面がある．一つは，コンピュータを内部や外部の危険源から守り，コンピュータを正常に稼動させ続けることを目的とする“コンピュータのための安全”であり，二つ目は，他のシステムの安全を維持する機能をコンピュータで実現させようとする“コンピュータによる安全”である．筆者は前者をコンピュータ安全と呼んでいるが，後者の典型例として機能安全と呼ばれる新しい安全の分野がある．本稿では，コンピュータ安全と機能安全の一般論とともに最近の動向について解説する．
