Dietary Protein Intake and Peritoneal Protein Losses in Peritoneal Dialysis Patients

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients lose protein in their waste dialysate, potentially increasing their risk for malnutrition. We wished to determine whether there was any association between losses and dietary protein intake (DPI). Methods DPI was assessed from 24‐h dietary recall using Nutrics software.

Closed-form solutions for free vibration of rectangular nonlocal Mindlin plates with arbitrary homogeneous boundary conditions

open access: yesComposites Part C: Open Access, 2021
In this paper, an extended separation-of-variable (SOV) method is developed to achieve the closed-form solutions for free vibration of rectangular nonlocal Mindlin plates with arbitrary homogeneous boundary conditions.

Therapeutic Apheresis in Nigeria: A Multi‐Center Summary of Abstracts From the Inaugural Nigerian Society for Apheresis Scientific Meeting

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Therapeutic apheresis (TA) is an established treatment modality for hematologic, neurologic, and immunologic disorders, yet access remains severely limited in sub‐Saharan Africa. Donor apheresis, including platelet apheresis collection from healthy donors, represents an important complementary modality supporting blood product ...

Lower Bounds of Periods of Periodic Solutions for a Class of Differential Equations with Variable Delays

open access: yesJournal of Applied Mathematics, 2013
Based on generalized Wirtinger's inequality, periods of periodic solutions of the nonautonomous differential equations with variable delays are investigated.

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Variable Selection in Semiparametric Bi-functional Models

open access: yes, 2020
A new sparse semiparametric functional model is proposed, which tries to incorporate the influence of two functional variables in a scalar response in a flexible way, but involving interpretable parameters.

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Variable selection in multivariate functional data classification

open access: yes, 2019
A new variable selection method is considered in the setting of classification with multivariate functional data (Ramsay and Silverman (2005)). The variable selection is a dimensionality reduction method which leads to replace the whole vector process ...

An Iterative Method for Curve Adjustment Based on Optimization of a Variable and its Application

open access: yesRevista Colombiana de Estadística, 2014
An iterative method for the adjustment of curves is obtained by applying the least squares method reiteratively in functional subclasses, each defined by one parameter, after assigning values to the rest of the parameters which determine a previously ...

Robust Estimation for Semi-Functional Linear Model with Autoregressive Errors

open access: yesMathematics, 2023
It is well-known that the traditional functional regression model is mainly based on the least square or likelihood method. These methods usually rely on some strong assumptions, such as error independence and normality, that are not always satisfied ...
