The fundamental relations of elliptical galaxies [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 1993
We investigate the basic laws that determine the global structure and metal abundance of elliptical galaxies. The existence of the Fundamental Plane has been considered to imply that the virial theorem is the only structural constraint for giant ellipticals.

COLD-MODE ACCRETION: DRIVING THE FUNDAMENTAL MASS–METALLICITY RELATION AT z ∼ 2 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
We investigate the star formation rate (SFR) dependence on the stellar mass and gas-phase metallicity relation at z = 2 with MOSFIRE/Keck as part of the ZFIRE survey.

The Environmental Dependence of the Luminosity-Size Relation for Galaxies

open access: yes, 2010
We have examined the luminosity-size relationship as a function of environment for 12150 SDSS galaxies with precise visual classifications from the catalog of Nair & Abraham (2010a).

Circulating histones as clinical biomarkers in critically ill conditions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Circulating histones are emerging as promising biomarkers in critical illness due to their diagnostic, prognostic, and therapeutic potential. Detection methods such as ELISA and mass spectrometry provide reliable approaches for quantifying histone levels in plasma samples.

The Extragalactic Distance Scale Key Project XXVII. A Derivation of the Hubble Constant Using the Fundamental Plane and Dn-Sigma Relations in Leo I, Virgo, and Fornax

open access: yes, 1999
Using published photometry and spectroscopy, we construct the fundamental plane and D_n-Sigma relations in Leo I, Virgo and Fornax. The published Cepheid P-L relations to spirals in these clusters fixes the relation between angular size and metric ...

The epithelial barrier theory proposes a comprehensive explanation for the origins of allergic and other chronic noncommunicable diseases

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Exposure to common noxious agents (1), including allergens, pollutants, and micro‐nanoplastics, can cause epithelial barrier damage (2) in our body's protective linings. This may trigger an immune response to our microbiome (3). The epithelial barrier theory explains how this process can lead to chronic noncommunicable diseases (4) affecting organs ...

SL(2, Z) invariant rotating (m, n) strings in $$AdS_3\times S^3$$ A d S 3 × S 3 with mixed flux

open access: yesEuropean Physical Journal C: Particles and Fields, 2017
We study rigidly rotating and pulsating (m, n) strings in $$AdS_3 \times S^3$$ A d S 3 × S 3 with mixed three form flux. The $$AdS_3 \times S^3$$ A d S 3 × S 3 background with mixed three form flux is obtained in the near horizon limit of SL(2, Z ...

Fundamental relation between phase and group velocity, and application to the failure of perfectly matched layers in backward-wave structures.

open access: yesPhysical review. E, Statistical, nonlinear, and soft matter physics, 2009
We demonstrate that the ratio of group to phase velocity has a simple relationship to the orientation of the electromagnetic field. In nondispersive materials, opposite group and phase velocity corresponds to fields that are mostly oriented in the ...

From omics to AI—mapping the pathogenic pathways in type 2 diabetes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Integrating multi‐omics data with AI‐based modelling (unsupervised and supervised machine learning) identify optimal patient clusters, informing AI‐driven accurate risk stratification. Digital twins simulate individual trajectories in real time, guiding precision medicine by matching patients to targeted therapies.

Uncertainty reconciles complementarity with joint measurability

open access: yes, 2002
The fundamental principles of complementarity and uncertainty are shown to be related to the possibility of joint unsharp measurements of pairs of noncommuting quantum observables. A new joint measurement scheme for complementary observables is proposed.
