The fungal elicitor cryptogein is a sterol carrier protein [PDF]
Cryptogein is a protein secreted by the phytopathogenic pseudo‐fungus, Phytophthora cryptogea. It is a basic 10 kDa hydrophilic protein having a hydrophobic pocket and three disulfide bridges. These common features with sterol carrier proteins led us to investigate its possible sterol transfer activity using the fluorescent sterol, dehydroergosterol ...

An iron‐based nanozyme selectively eliminates intratumoral P. anaerobius while catalytically generating ROS to induce ferroptosis, synergistically suppressing colorectal cancer growth and activating anti‐tumor immunity through immunogenic cell death. ABSTRACT The intratumoral microbiota is a critical determinant of therapeutic outcomes in colorectal ...

A Novel Class of Ectomycorrhiza-Regulated Cell Wall Polypeptides in Pisolithus tinctorius
Development of the ectomycorrhizal symbiosis leads to the aggregation of fungal hyphae to form the mantle. To identify cell surface proteins involved in this developmental step, changes in the biosynthesis of fungal cell wall proteins were examined in ...

Bioconversion of hemicelluloses into fungal protein
The utilization of cellulose from one ton of lignocellulose for ethanol production would yield 150–250 kg of hemicelluloses. The total soluble solids in the hemicellulose fraction (HF) obtained with the Universite de Sherbrooke (UdeS) process contained about 56% carbohydrates. These carbohydrates were present in the form of oligomers of various sugars,

Dissecting the Ecological Structure of Health and Disease in the Global Gut Microbiome
We introduce Wiredancer, a framework that identifies three continuous ecological factors of the gut microbiota. These factors exhibit distinct patterns across health and disease, jointly capturing disrupted ecological stability and offering a new perspective for precision diagnostics and therapeutic strategies.

The dynamic organization of fungal acetyl-CoA carboxylase [PDF]
Acetyl-CoA carboxylases (ACCs) catalyse the committed step in fatty-acid biosynthesis: the ATP-dependent carboxylation of acetyl-CoA to malonyl-CoA. They are important regulatory hubs for metabolic control and relevant drug targets for the treatment of ...

ABSTRACT Gut microbiota dysbiosis promotes colorectal cancer (CRC) tumorigenesis. A global fecal metagenomic analysis identified Gemella morbillorum as a key contributor to the CRC‐associated microbiota. Fluorescence in situ hybridization revealed that Gemella morbillorum is enriched in CRC tumor tissues compared to adjacent normal tissues.

Evaluation of Unconventional Protein Secretion by Saccharomyces cerevisiae and other Fungi
Development of proteome analysis of extracellular proteins has revealed that a wide variety of proteins, including fungal allergens are present outside the cell. These secreted allergens often do not contain known secretion signal sequences.
