Testing Umbilical Cords for Funisitis due to Treponema pallidum Infection, Bolivia
To establish the frequency of necrotizing funisitis in congenital syphilis, we conducted a prospective descriptive study of maternal syphilis in Bolivia by testing 1,559 women at delivery with rapid plasma reagin (RPR).

Chorioamnionitis/funisitis and the development of bronchopulmonary dysplasia
Objective: To examine the association between chorioamnionitis with or without funisitis and bronchopulmonary dysplasia in infants less than 30 completed weeks gestation given the current standards of antenatal steroid and surfactant use. Methods: Infants included in the study were those delivered at less than 30 completed weeks gestation from January

A fetal and an intra-amniotic inflammatory response is more severe in preterm labor than in preterm PROM in the context of funisitis: unexpected observation in human gestations. [PDF]
Although intra-amniotic(IA) infection is present in both preterm labor and intact membranes(PTL) and preterm premature rupture of membranes(preterm-PROM), it is more common in preterm-PROM than in PTL.

Chorioamnionitis and funisitis due to Corynebacterium kutscheri. [PDF]
When isolated from the female genital tract, diphtheroids are usually regarded as commensal organisms. Corynebacterium kutscheri however is a pathogen in laboratory rodents. We report a case in which C. kutscheri was isolated as a pure culture from the umbilical cord and from other surface sites in an infant.

Congenital cutaneous candidiasis with funisitis [PDF]
Congenital candidiasis is associated with increased perinatal mortality and adverse neurological outcomes, with extensive periventricular leucomalacia being common.1 This baby was the first of twins born by emergency caesarean section at 29 weeks gestation after cervical suture removal.
