Biosynthesis of furanocoumarins in parsnips
Phytochemistry, 1970Abstract Labelling experiments have shown that umbelliferone, and to a lesser degree p -coumaric acid, are precursors of bergapten, imperatorin, isopimpinellin and xanthotoxin in Pastinaca sativa L. C-2 and C-5 of mevalonate, which has been proposed as a precursor of two furan ring carbons and of dimethylallyl substituents, were both incorporated ...

Mass spectrometry of some furanocoumarins
Canadian Journal of Chemistry, 1979The mass spectra of two isomeric methoxyfuranocoumarins have been investigated using electron-impact ionisation. Unambiguous distinction between the two isomers is possible through a combination of conventional mass spectra with collision-induced dissociations of the molecular ions and of selected fragment ions.

AbstractFuranocoumarins are attractive targets in the synthetic organic and medicinal chemistry field because of their structural diversity and interesting biological properties. Herein, we describe the synthesis of furanocoumarin natural products from common furanocoumarin skeletons.

Biosynthesis of furanocoumarins in diseased celery
Phytochemistry, 1969Abstract Celery infected with the pathogenic fungus Sclerotinia sclerotiorum incorporates cinnamic acid-114C, formate-14C, and methionine-14CH3 into xanthotoxin (8-methoxypsoralen), but not into 4,5′,8-trimethylpsoralen.
