Synthesis of carbohydrate furoxan derivatives
Journal of the Chemical Society, Chemical Communications, 1972A route to carbohydrate furoxan derivatives has been developed which involves treatment of a carbohydrate α-keto toluene-p-sulphonate with hydroxylamine hydrochloride in aqueous pyridine, followed by treatment of the resultant oximino-pyridinium salt with sodium nitrite.

New furoxan derivatives for the treatment of ocular hypertension
Bioorganic & Medicinal Chemistry Letters, 2017A small series of water-soluble NO-donor furoxans bearing a basic center at the 4-position, having a wide lipophilic-hydrophilic balance range, and endowed with different NO-release capacities, were synthesized and characterized. Selected members were studied for their IOP-lowering activity in the transient ocular hypertensive rabbit model at 1% dose ...

Pharmacological Properties of Furoxans and Benzofuroxans: Recent Developments
Mini-Reviews in Medicinal Chemistry, 2005The chemistry of furoxans (1, 2, 5-oxadiazole-2-oxides) and benzofuroxans (benzo[1, 2-c]1, 2, 5-oxadiazole-1-oxides) is very well known. These systems are widely used in organic chemistry as intermediate compounds for the synthesis of numerous heterocycles.

Benzofuroxan and Furoxan. Chemistry and Biology
2007Since the middle of the 20th century, benzofuroxan and furoxan derivatives have been extensively studiedas bioactive compounds. Maybe the most relevant reported biological property has been related to its capabilityto release nitric oxide; moreover, other significant activities have been identified, such as antibacterial, antifungal, antiparasite ...

Dependence of the Decomposition Rate of Furoxanes on the Polarity of the Solvent
Russian Journal of Physical Chemistry BThe decomposition rates of diphenylfuroxane and a number of 4-nitro-3-alkyl-furoxanes in dilute solutions were measured by manometric and calorimetric methods. In no case, an increase in the reaction rate was detected with an increase in the polarity of the solvent, which corresponds to the absence of an increase in the dipole moment of the molecule ...
