Performance of cryptogenic new onset refractory status epilepticus score in a Brazilian cohort after testing for antineuronal antibodies with tissue-based and cell-based assays. [PDF]
Abstract Objective This study was undertaken to describe a case series of Brazilian new onset refractory status epilepticus (NORSE) patients and evaluate the sensitivity and specificity of a clinical score to predict cryptogenic etiology (c‐NORSE score) after autoimmune encephalitis (AE) testing.

Central amygdala-to-pre-Bötzinger complex neurotransmission is direct and inhibitory. [PDF]
Neurons in the central amygdala project axons to the brainstem pre‐Bötzinger complex, which generates the rhythm for breathing. Light activation of channel rhodopsin revealed active inhibitory synapses that were predominantly, but not exclusively, mediated by GABAA receptors.

Optically driven microtools with an antibody‐immobilised surface for on‐site cell assembly
We developed the method for assembling single cells to form a cell cluster that is intended for use as an organ model. Cells are assembled under an optical microscope with single cell resolution by using optically‐driven microstructures with an antibody‐immobilised surface as linkers in a cell‐trapping microfluidic device.

The reliability of biomedical science: A case history of a maturing experimental field
We have a growing understanding of exactly how inositol phospholipids contribute to several cellular functions, but we still do not understand why eating supplementary inositol ameliorates some metabolic diseases. This illustrates an important difference between biomedical problems that are and are not currently susceptible to precise mechanistic ...
