Transparency of FWM in SOAs to Phase/Amplitude and Polarization [PDF]

open access: yesOptical Fiber Communication Conference and National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference, 2009
We study the real transparency of FWM in SOAs to modulation formats involving phase/amplitude and polarization. 40Gb/s (NRZ-OOK and NRZ-DPSK) and 80Gb/s polarization-multiplexed signals are wavelength-converted employing two different polarization-independent schemes. Critical issues are found.

Estimation and mitigation of FWM penalties in dispersion managed 32 channel long haul DWDM soliton link

Optik, 2013
In this paper, FWM power has been estimated and mitigated by using Optical Phase Conjugator (OPC) in the middle of the optical fiber span which strongly suppresses the FWM power by introducing destructive interference between the first and second halves ...

Flat-gain DFRA design considering pump-to-pump FWM

2012 IV International Congress on Ultra Modern Telecommunications and Control Systems, 2012
Pumps of a Distributed Fiber Raman Amplifier (DFRA) built over Non-Zero Dispersion Shifted Fiber (NZ-DSF), can generate FWM waves which could degrade the flatness of the amplifier gain profile. In this paper a rigorous approach based on a Genetic Algorithm (GA) and a Message Passing Interface (MPI) strategy have been used, in order to design a flat ...

Vector FWM in optical fibers: tuning techniques and applications [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
Recently, the nonlinear four-wave mixing (FWM) effect in optical fibers has attracted great interest for the development of new optical fiber light sources due to the multiple light emission produced by this nonlinear effect. In recent years, such FWM-based light sources have demonstrated great utility in areas such as quantum optics and advanced Raman-
