XPM and FWM in OFDM optical systems

LEOS 2001. 14th Annual Meeting of the IEEE Lasers and Electro-Optics Society (Cat. No.01CH37242), 2002
Summary form only given. Cross-phase modulation (XPM) and four-wave mixing (FWM) are two of the most important sources of nonlinear crosstalk in multi-wavelength fiber-optic systems and their effects are generally proportional to signal optical power and inversely proportional to the channel spacing. In OFDM and OSCM systems, the channel spacing can be

FWM broadband optical beams with tilted coherence layers

SPIE Proceedings, 1996
The method for greatly widening the coherent interaction region of intersecting broad-band optical bemas by tilting the coherence layers has been theoretically and experimentally studied. Efficient FWM for the spectrum width of radiation equal to 20 nm has been obtained. OPC of signal wave has been shown.

Simplified FWM model for flexible-grid optical systems

2016 24th Telecommunications Forum (TELFOR), 2016
We develop a closed-form expression in order to assess the nonlinear performance of flex-grid optical transmission systems. This simplified expression can estimate the performance of any super-channel of the spectrum allowing its introduction in Routing and Spectrum Assignment (RSA) algorithms which consider physical layer effects.

Transparency of FWM in SOAs to Phase/Amplitude and Polarization

Optical Fiber Communication Conference and National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference, 2009
We study the real transparency of FWM in SOAs to modulation formats involving phase/amplitude and polarization. 40Gb/s (NRZ-OOK and NRZ-DPSK) and 80Gb/s polarization-multiplexed signals are wavelength-converted employing two different polarization-independent schemes. Critical issues are found.

FWM-based Wavelength Conversion in a Silicon Germanium Waveguide

Optical Fiber Communication Conference/National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference 2013, 2013
We demonstrate four-wave mixing based wavelength conversion of 40 Gbaud DPSK and QPSK signals in a 2.5-cm long silicon germanium waveguide with a nonlinearity coefficient of 25.8/W/m.

Two-photon coherence in a DROP-FWM medium

Physica Scripta
Abstract In this work, we report experimental studies on coherence in a medium exhibiting DROP (Double Resonance Optical Pumping)-FWM (Four Wave Mixing). Here 5S1/2(F) → 5P3/2(F/) → 5D (F//) two photon transition of hot 87Rb atoms is used.

FWM Constraints Management for Lightpath Establishment in GMPLS Networks

Journal of Lightwave Technology, 2011
In all-optical networks, management of physical layer restrictions should collaborate in lightpath establishment. Label-Switched Path validation in Generalized MultiProtocol Label Switching on Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing network requires the treatment of the physical impairment-related parameters along the provisioned route.

Dispersion management scheme for suppressing FWM in DWDM transmission

Conference Proceedings. LEOS'98. 11th Annual Meeting. IEEE Lasers and Electro-Optics Society 1998 Annual Meeting (Cat. No.98CH36243), 2002
We numerically confirm the relation between four wave mixing (FWM) power, amplifier spacing and FWM interaction distances in a dispersion compensated WDM transmission system. We also show the dependence of FWM power on dispersion compensation period. Recirculating loop experiments verify the numerical results.

Raman, Rayleigh and Brillouin-enhanced FWM Polarization Beats

2011
Based on color-locking noisy field correlation, the Raman, Raman and Rayleigh, Rayleigh and Brillouin, coexisting Raman, Rayleigh and Brillouin-enhanced polarization beats have been investigated. Roles of amplitude fluctuations and phase fluctuations have been pointed out in attosecond sumfrequency polarization beats (ASPB).
