Do European Seabass Larvae Grow Better in Their Natural Temperature Regime? [PDF]
ABSTRACT Understanding how warming surface waters impact the larval growth of highly prized marine fishes such as the European seabass, Dicentrarchus labrax, is important for sustainable fisheries and aquaculture. We studied the growth of larvae from three genetically differentiated seabass populations, Atlantic (AT), Western Mediterranean (WM), and ...

Abstract Many emerging infectious diseases originate from wild animals, so there is a profound need for surveillance and monitoring of their pathogens. However, the practical difficulty of sample acquisition from wild animals tends to limit the feasibility and effectiveness of such surveys.

Objective To review the current state of genetic risk models for predicting the development of kidney cancer, by identifying and comparing the performance of published models. Methods Risk models were identified from a recent systematic review and the Cancer‐PRS web directory. A narrative synthesis of the models, previous validation studies and related

Decreased selectivity during mate choice in a small‐sized population of a long‐lived seabird
As biparental care is crucial for breeding success in Procellariiformes seabirds (i.e. albatrosses and petrels), these species are expected to be choosy during pair formation. However, the choice of partners is limited in small‐sized populations, which might lead to random pairing.

Abstract Introduction There is increasing interest in plasma amyloid beta (Aβ) as an endophenotype of Alzheimer's disease (AD). Identifying the genetic determinants of plasma Aβ levels may elucidate important biological processes that determine plasma Aβ measures. Methods We included 12,369 non‐demented participants from eight population‐based studies.

Genetic Susceptibility Loci in Genomewide Association Study of Cluster Headache
Objective Identifying common genetic variants that confer genetic risk for cluster headache. Methods We conducted a case–control study in the Dutch Leiden University Cluster headache neuro‐Analysis program (LUCA) study population (n = 840) and unselected controls from the Netherlands Epidemiology of Obesity Study (NEO; n = 1,457).

Intragenic PNPLA1 duplication in Labrador retrievers with nonepidermolytic ichthyosis. [PDF]
Background – Ichthyoses represent a heterogeneous group of cornification disorders characterised by epidermal scaling. Objectives – To describe the clinical, histopathological and genetic analysis of a Labrador retriever with nonepidermolytic ichthyosis, and the results of a Labrador retriever population screening for a newly detected PNPLA1 genomic ...

In the European sea bass, a marine fish species with a polygenic sex‐determination system, we show that exposure to low temperature has opposite effects on sex ratio. Early exposure favors female sex determination, while late exposure favors male sex determination.

Abstract Heterozygous activating variants in platelet‐derived growth factor, beta (PDGFRB) are associated with phenotypes including Kosaki overgrowth syndrome (KOGS), Penttinen syndrome and infantile myofibromatosis (IM). Here, we present three new cases of KOGS, including a patient with a novel de novo variant c.1477A > T p.(Ser493Cys), and the oldest

Blood eosinophil count and airway epithelial transcriptome relationships in COPD versus asthma
In a chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) cohort (EvA, n = 283), 12 genes, whereas in asthma cohort (UBIOPRED, n = 85), 1197 genes in bronchial epithelial brushes were correlated with a blood eosinophil count. The gene CST1 was common to eosinophilic asthma and COPD and was replicated in independent cohorts.
