Atomic Force Microscopy and Voltammetric Investigation of Quadruplex Formation between a Triazole-Acridine Conjugate and Guanine-Containing Repeat DNA Sequences [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The interactions of the Tetrahymena telomeric repeat sequence d(TG4T) and the polyguanylic acid (poly(G)) sequence with the quadruplex-targeting triazole-linked acridine ligand GL15 were investigated using atomic force microscopy (AFM) at a highly ...

An Engineered Living Material With Pro‐Angiogenic Activity Inducible by Near‐Infrared Light

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
NIR‐responsive engineered living materials (ELMs) for controlled angiogenesis: Near‐infrared (800 nm) light activates engineered probiotic bacteria within alginate‐based living materials to secrete a blood vessel‐regenerating protein. The released protein promotes pro‐angiogenic effects in endothelial networks and chick chorioallantoic membranes.

G-quadruplex: A potential target for small molecules and proteins in anti-cancer drug investigation

open access: yesTạp chí Khoa học Đại học Mở Thành phố Hồ Chí Minh - Kỹ thuật và Công nghệ, 2018
DNA or RNA G-quadruplexes are secondary structures that occur in four-stranded Guanine-rich regions formed by stacked G-tetrads. The formation of DNA or RNA G-quadruplex structures plays a key role in many cellular biological processes such as DNA ...

Kinetic Target‐Guided Synthesis of Small‐Molecule G‐Quadruplex Stabilizers

open access: yesChemistryOpen, 2020
The formation of a G‐quadruplex motif in the promoter region of the c‐MYC protooncogene prevents its expression. Accordingly, G‐quadruplex stabilization by a suitable ligand may be a viable approach for anticancer therapy.

Porphyrin binding mechanism is altered by protonation at the loops in G-quadruplex DNA formed near the transcriptional activation site of the human c-kit gene [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Background: G-quadruplex DNA structures are hypothesized to be involved in the regulation of gene expression and telomere homeostasis. The development of small molecules that modulate the stability of G-quadruplex structures has a potential therapeutic ...

Shape‐Controlled Guanine Self‐Assemblies for Stable and Fast‐Ion Solid–Electrolyte Interphases in Sustainable Li Metal Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The shape of guanine self‐assemblies is tuned by introducing alkyl (G8), fluoroalkyl (G8f), and oligoether (G8g) side chains into the G moiety. The scanning tunneling microscopy results and calculations show that the presence and type of the side chain strongly affect the G self‐assembly network.

Pathogenic determinants and mechanisms of ALS/FTD linked to hexanucleotide repeat expansions in the C9orf72 gene. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and frontotemporal dementia (FTD) are two apparently distinct neurodegenerative diseases, the former characterized by selective loss of motor neurons in the brain and spinal cord and the latter characterized by ...

Tissue‐Stimulator Platform for Electrically Stimulating Pancreatic β‐Cells for Long‐Term Functional Regulation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We present a tissue‐stimulator platform for seamless electrode integration with pancreatic tissue, applying uniform electrical stimulation through optimized design with biohybrid 3D printing. Advantageous effects of electrical stimulation on β‐cell function were observed, including enhanced calcium signaling, islet morphology, and maturation.

Bis-indole derivatives with antitumor activity turn out to be specific ligands of human telomeric G-quadruplex

open access: yesFrontiers in Chemistry, 2014
Bis-indolinone derivatives having either 2,6-disubstituted pyridine core (1a and 1b) or 1,10-disubstituted phenanthroline core (2a and 2b), already known to have antitumor activity, have been tested as potential G-quadruplex binders.
