ALDH expression characterizes G1-phase proliferating beta cells during pregnancy.
High levels of aldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH) activity have been detected in various progenitor and stem cells. Thus, Aldefluor fluorescence, which represents precisely the ALDH activity, has been widely used for the identification, evaluation, and ...

Solvent Co‐Intercalation Enabled Ca Storage in MoS2 for Ca‐Ion Batteries
Regulating electrolyte solvation levels enables otherwise non‐intercalatable Ca2+ ions to reversibly co‐intercalate into molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) as ether‐solvated species. The intercalation reversibility is strongly governed by solvent chain length, as demonstrated using diethylene glycol dimethyl ether (G2) and tetraethylene glycol dimethyl ether (

Swi4-dependent SWI4 transcription couples cell size to cell cycle commitment
Summary: Growth-dependent accumulation of the G1/S transcription factor SBF, composed of Swi4 and Swi6, occurs in G1 phase in budding yeast and is limiting for commitment to division, termed Start.

Nanotherapies for Atherosclerosis: Targeting, Catalysis, and Energy Transduction
Atherosclerosis management is hindered by poor drug targeting and plaque heterogeneity. Nanotechnology overcomes these barriers via three core strategies: (1) target‐engineered nanocarriers that achieve lesion‐specific precision via ligand modification, biomimetic camouflage, stimuli‐responsive release, and self‐propelling nanomotors; (2) catalytic ...

Two monoclonal antibodies, 1F5 and B1, directed against the CD20 (Bp35) antigen were found to have both stimulatory and inhibitory effects on B cells. 1F5, but not B1, induces small resting tonsillar B cells and prolymphocytic leukemia cells to enlarge ...

3D Soft Hydrogels Induce Human Mesenchymal Stem Cells “Deep” Quiescence
Three‐dimensional soft hydrogels mimicking the bone marrow niche induce deep quiescence in human mesenchymal stem cells. Unlike 2D culture, 3D matrices halt proliferation, regulate cell‐cycle and quiescence markers, and downregulate mTORC1 signaling, preserving stem cell phenotype and therapeutic potential ex vivo.

Ectopic cyclin E expression induces premature entry into S phase and disrupts pattern formation in the Drosophila eye imaginal disc [PDF]
During animal development, cell proliferation is controlled in many cases by regulation of the G1 to S phase transition. Studies of mammalian tissue culture cells have shown that the G1-specific cyclin, cyclin E, can be rate limiting for progression from
