Aurora A polyubiquitinates the BRCA1-interacting protein OLA1 to promote centrosome maturation
Summary: The BRCA1-interacting protein Obg-like ATPase 1 (OLA1) functions in centriole duplication. In this study, we show the role of the mitotic kinase Aurora A in the reduction of centrosomal OLA1.

BAC-G2 Predictions of Thermochemistry for Gas-Phase Aluminum Compounds [PDF]
A self-consistent set of thermochemical data for 55 molecules in the Al-H-C-O-F-Cl system are obtained from ab initio quantum-chemistry calculations using the BAC-G2 method. Calculations were performed for both stable and radical species. Good agreement is found between the calculations and experimental heats of formation in most cases where data are ...

Regulation of Cell Cycle Progression by Growth Factor-Induced Cell Signaling
The cell cycle is the series of events that take place in a cell, which drives it to divide and produce two new daughter cells. The typical cell cycle in eukaryotes is composed of the following phases: G1, S, G2, and M phase.

Preparation for mitosis requires gradual CDK1 activation
Summary: G2 phase is considered as a time in which cells prepare for the large structural changes in the following mitosis. Starting at completion of DNA replication, CDK1 and PLK1 kinase activities gradually increase throughout G2 phase until reaching ...

Cdk activity drives senescence from G2 phase
AbstractIn response to DNA damage a cell can be forced to permanently exit the cell cycle and become senescent. Senescence provides an early barrier against tumor development by preventing proliferation of cells with damaged DNA. By studying single cells, we show that Cdk activity is retained after DNA damage until terminal cell cycle exit.

MOF Phosphorylation by ATM Regulates 53BP1-Mediated Double-Strand Break Repair Pathway Choice
Cell-cycle phase is a critical determinant of the choice between DNA damage repair by nonhomologous end-joining (NHEJ) or homologous recombination (HR).

Staphylococcus aureus-induced G2/M phase transition delay in host epithelial cells increases bacterial infective efficiency. [PDF]
Staphylococcus aureus is a highly versatile, opportunistic pathogen and the etiological agent of a wide range of infections in humans and warm-blooded animals. The epithelial surface is its principal site of colonization and infection.

Elevated radiation-induced γH2AX foci in G2 phase heterozygous BRCA2 fibroblasts
About 5-10% of all breast cancer cases are associated with heterozygous germ-line mutations in the genes encoding BRCA1 and BRCA2. Carriers of such mutations are highly predisposed for developing breast or ovarian cancer and, thus, are advised to undergo regular radio-diagnostic examinations.

E2F activity determines mitosis versus whole-genome duplication in G2-arrested cells
While mitogenic signaling is known to regulate cell-cycle entry during the G1 phase, its function in the G2 phase remains elusive. Here we show that mitogenic signaling controls whether G2-arrested cells proceed through mitosis or undergo whole-genome ...
