Clusters of galaxies and the hot intracluster medium [PDF]

open access: yesAdvances in Space Research, 1990
Abstract The luminous material in clusters of galaxies falls primarily into two forms — the visible galaxies and the X-ray emitting intracluster medium. The hot intracluster medium is the major observed baryonic component of clusters with a mass equal to or greater than that of the stellar matter.

Encounters of merger and accretion shocks in galaxy clusters and their effects on intracluster medium [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2020
ABSTRACT Several types/classes of shocks naturally arise during formation and evolution of galaxy clusters. One such class is represented by accretion shocks, associated with deceleration of infalling baryons. Such shocks, characterized by a very high Mach number, are present even in 1D models of cluster evolution.

The central FR0 in the sloshing cluster Abell 795: Indications of mechanical feedback from Chandra data

open access: yesAstronomische Nachrichten, Volume 342, Issue 9-10, Page 1207-1211, November-December 2021., 2021
Abstract We present a detailed study of the galaxy cluster Abell 795 and of its central Fanaroff‐Riley Type 0 (FR0) radio galaxy. From an archival Chandra observation, we found a dynamically disturbed environment with evidences for sloshing of the intracluster medium.

1H 0707‐495: An AGN is dimming its X‐ray light

open access: yesAstronomische Nachrichten, Volume 342, Issue 5, Page 708-714, June 2021., 2021
Abstract We report on one of the first science observations obtained during the Calibration and Verification phase of extended ROentgen Survey with an Imaging Telescope Array (eROSITA) aboard the Spectrum‐Roentgen‐Gamma (SRG) mission on the famous Narrow‐Line Seyfert 1 Galaxy 1H 0707‐495.

Four‐Year Behavioral, Health‐Related Quality of Life, and BMI Outcomes from a Cluster Randomized Whole of Systems Trial of Prevention Strategies for Childhood Obesity

open access: yesObesity, Volume 29, Issue 6, Page 1022-1035, June 2021., 2021
Objective This study aimed to test the effectiveness of the Whole of Systems Trial of Prevention Strategies for Childhood Obesity (WHO STOPS Childhood Obesity) for behavioral, health‐related quality of life (HRQoL), and BMI outcomes. Methods This was a cluster randomized trial of 10 communities randomly allocated (1:1) to start intervention in 2015 ...

ROTATION AND TURBULENCE OF THE HOT INTRACLUSTER MEDIUM IN GALAXY CLUSTERS [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2009
Cosmological simulations of galaxy clusters typically find that the weight of a cluster at a given radius is not balanced entirely by the thermal gas pressure of the hot intracluster medium (ICM), with theoretical studies emphasizing the role of random turbulent motions to provide the necessary additional pressure support.

Properties of the Intracluster Medium in an Ensemble of Nearby Galaxy Clusters [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 1999
We present a systematic analysis of the intracluster medium (ICM) in an X-ray flux limited sample of 45 galaxy clusters. Using archival ROSAT PSPC data and published ICM temperatures, we present best fit double and single beta model profiles and extract ICM central densities and radial distributions.

Evolution of X‐Ray Clusters of Galaxies and Shock Heating of the Intracluster Medium [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 1998
Evolutions of X-ray clusters of galaxies are studied by N-body (shell model) + mesh code (TVD) simulations on the assumption of spherical symmetry. We consider a density perturbation of $10^{15} M_{\odot}$ composed of dark matter and gas in cold dark matter dominated universe with the cosmological density parameter, $Ω_0 = 1$ or $0.2$.
