SUPPRESSION OF ELECTRON THERMAL CONDUCTION IN THE HIGH β INTRACLUSTER MEDIUM OF GALAXY CLUSTERS [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters, 2016
ABSTRACT Understanding the thermodynamic state of the hot intracluster medium (ICM) in a galaxy cluster requires knowledge of the plasma transport processes, especially thermal conduction. The basic physics of thermal conduction in plasmas with ICM-like conditions has yet to be elucidated, however. We use particle-in-cell simulations and

Uncertainty in Mass Determination of Galaxy Clusters due to the Bulk Motion of Intracluster Medium [PDF]

open access: yesSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 1998
Determination of the mass of cluster of galaxies (CG) is very important mainly because it relates to determination of cosmological density parameter (Ω0).

On the origin of central abundance drops in the intracluster medium of galaxy groups and clusters [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2019
A central drop of ICM Fe abundance has been observed in several cool-core clusters. It has been proposed that this abundance drop may be due, at least partially, to the depletion of Fe into dust grains in the central, high-density regions. According to this scenario, noble gas elements such as Ar and Ne are not expected to be depleted into dust, and ...

Galaxy Evolution in a Pilot Survey up to z = 1 and CDM Halos

open access: yesAdvances in Astronomy, Volume 2011, Issue 1, 2011., 2011
We study spectral evolution of galaxies in a magnitude limited sample of 550 galaxies from z = 1 down to z = 0.3 on a pencil beam of ≈10′ × 10′. We concentrate on the large apparent cosmological structures along the line of sight, and we bin our individual galaxy spectra to obtain representative high S/N spectra based upon these structures.

Dark Matter: A Primer

open access: yesAdvances in Astronomy, Volume 2011, Issue 1, 2011., 2011
Dark matter is one of the greatest unsolved mysteries in cosmology at the present time. About 80% of the Universe′s gravitating matter is nonluminous, and its nature and distribution are for the most part unknown. In this paper, we will outline the history, astrophysical evidence, candidates, and detection methods of dark matter, with the goal to give ...
