Modeling the chemical evolution of the Galaxy halo [PDF]
We study the chemical evolution and formation of the Galactic halo through the analysis of its stellar metallicity distribution function and some key elemental abundance patterns. Starting from the two-infall model for the Galaxy, which predicts too few low-metallicity stars, we add a gas outflow during the halo phase with a rate proportional to the ...

Chemical evolution of nearby stellar systems [PDF]
Oct-1 is a transcription factor belonging to the POU family (Clerc et al. 1988) (Herr et al. 1988) (Ryan and Rosenfeld 1997). The members of this family are involved in a broad range of biological processes like transcription of housekeeping genes ...

The clustering of galaxies in hierarchical galaxy formation models [PDF]
Galaxy clustering encodes information about the values of cosmological parameters and also about the physical processes behind galaxy formation and evolution. The GALFORM semi-analytical model is the theoretical approach we used to model galaxy formation.

A fully flexible ion‐gel‐gated graphene‐channel transistor driven by a triboelectric nanogenerator enables self‐powered tactile sensing and synaptic learning. Mimicking spike‐rate‐dependent plasticity, the device exhibits frequency‐selective potentiation and depression, supporting rate‐coded neuromorphic computation even under flex.

Revisiting the Fundamental Metallicity Relation with Observation and Simulation
The gas-phase metallicity of galaxies is regulated by multiple astrophysical processes, which makes it a crucial diagnostic of galaxy formation and evolution.

A Bifunctional T3SS‐Effector Simultaneously Cleaves Host MAP Kinase and Inhibits PPM1A Phosphatase
Pathogenic bacteria exploit the metalloprotease effector NleD to subvert host defenses. Structural, biochemical, and infection analyses reveal a bifunctional mechanism by which NleD binds and inhibits the host phosphatase PPM1A while preserving its proteolytic activity against MAPKs.

Simulating supernova feedback in galaxy disks [PDF]
In this thesis I examine supernova feedback in hydrodynamical simulations of galaxy disks. Understanding this process entails the numerical evaluation of cooling in radiative shocks, and we present a set of simulations using two widely used numerical ...
