Galactic PeV Neutrinos

open access: yes, 2013
IceCube experiment has detected two neutrinos with energies beween 1-10 PeV. They might have originated from Galactic or extragalactic sources of cosmic rays.

Bar-spheroid interaction in galaxies

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 1992
The secular evolution of barred galaxies is explored using N-body simulation and linear analysis. In particular, we examine the interaction between bars and spheroidal components of galaxies. According to our calculations, this interaction drives secular transfer of angular momentum from bars to spheroids, primarily through resonant coupling.

A Comprehensive Perturbative Formalism for Phase Mixing in Perturbed Disks. II. Phase Spirals in an Inhomogeneous Disk Galaxy with a Nonresponsive Dark Matter Halo

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2023
We develop a linear perturbative formalism to compute the response of an inhomogeneous stellar disk embedded in a nonresponsive dark matter (DM) halo to various perturbations like bars, spiral arms, and encounters with satellite galaxies.

Forming Young Bulges within Existing Disks: Statistical Evidence for External Drivers

open access: yes, 2003
Contrary to traditional models of galaxy formation, recent observations suggest that some bulges form within preexisting disk galaxies. Such late-epoch bulge formation within disks seems to be linked to disk gas inflow and central star formation, caused ...

Cold gas and star formation in a merging galaxy sequence [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
We explore the evolution of the cold gas and star-formation activity during galaxy interactions, using a merging galaxy sequence comprising both pre- and post-mergers.

On the frequency, intensity and duration of starburst episodes triggered by galaxy interactions and mergers

open access: yes, 2008
We investigate the intensity enhancement and the duration of starburst episodes, triggered by major galaxy interactions and mergers. To this aim, we analyze two large statistical datasets of numerical simulations.

Large Scale Structure in Dark Matter and Galaxies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Galaxy evolution and AGN growth in the early universe are believed to be strongly driven by merging (hierarchical growth) and galaxy dynamical interactions.

The Effect of Galaxy Interactions on Starbursts in Milky Way-mass Galaxies in FIRE Simulations

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Simulations and observations suggest that galaxy interactions may enhance the star formation rate (SFR) in merging galaxies. One proposed mechanism is the torque exerted on the gas and stars in the larger galaxy by the smaller galaxy.

Triazine‐Trione Thermosets with High Processability for Scaffold Applications in Bone Tissue Engineering

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Novel photo‐clickable triazine‐trione thermosets can be shaped and cured under mild conditions, including room and physiological temperatures. These materials are biocompatible and support osteogenic differentiation of bone marrow–derived mesenchymal stem cells on their surface.

Interactive Tools (IT) in Galaxy

open access: yesProceedings of the Conference on Research Data Infrastructure, 2023
Galaxy is a GUI-based scientific data management and analysis platform that aims to expand the target audience of scientific computing to scientists without advanced computer literacy or access to computing infrastructure. During the operation of a typical asynchronous workflow, the interaction of the user triggers a job submission to a hosted ...
