Mind and Cosmos as Throughput Systems: A Convergence Through the Throughput Model
ABSTRACT This paper advances a conceptual and mathematical foundations approach by applying the throughput model (TPM) to cosmic phenomena, reframing the universe as an extended information processing system. TPM's four stages, Perception, Information, Judgement and Decision Choice, are reformulated in explicit information‐theoretic and dynamical ...

Plasma physics in clusters of galaxies
Clusters of galaxies are the largest self-gravitating structures in the universe. Each cluster is filled with a large-scale plasma atmosphere, in which primordial matter is mixed with matter that has been processed inside stars. This is a wonderful plasma physics laboratory. Our diagnostics are the data we obtain from x-ray and radio telescopes.

Intergroup conflicts have a wide range of impacts, including affecting movement and ranging patterns. Previous studies found contrasting movement responses to intergroup conflicts, but no explanation for these differences has been suggested. However, these can be broadly grouped into ‘conflict avoidance' responses: avoiding areas close to the fight ...

Insights into Galaxy Evolution from Interpretable Sparse Feature Networks
Galaxy appearances reveal the physics of how they formed and evolved. Machine learning (ML) models can now exploit galaxies’ information-rich morphologies to predict physical properties directly from image cutouts. Learning the relationship between pixel-

‘A Sort of Armed Argument’: Ireland's Civil War of Words
Abstract This article sets out to contribute to the study of the languages of European civil wars through outlining and analysing the deployment of language as a weapon by the opposing sides of the Irish independence movement that split over the terms of the Anglo‐Irish Treaty of December 1921.

Out There No One Has a Right to Die
ABSTRACT The eventual goal of space exploration is to colonize exoplanets and their moons outside our solar system. This is a dangerous and immoral endeavour. The extraterrestrial life forms encountered would be hostile, vulnerable or both, and the descendants of the original pioneers would be involuntarily exposed to hazardous conditions and ...

DiffstarPop: A generative physical model of galaxy star formation history
We present DiffstarPop, a differentiable forward model of cosmological populations of galaxy star formation histories (SFH). In the model, individual galaxy SFH is parametrized by Diffstar, which has parameters $θ_{\rm SFH}$ that have a direct ...
