The MASSIVE Survey. XVII. A Triaxial Orbit-based Determination of the Black Hole Mass and Intrinsic Shape of Elliptical Galaxy NGC 2693

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2022
We present a stellar dynamical mass measurement of a newly detected supermassive black hole (SMBH) at the center of the fast-rotating, massive elliptical galaxy NGC 2693 as part of the MASSIVE survey.

Spiral arms across stellar populations in simulations via the local dimension method

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics
Context. The origin and nature of spiral arms remain unclear. Star-forming regions and young stars are generally strongly associated with the spiral structure, but there are few quantitative predictions from simulations about the contribution of stars of

Stellar content of NGC 404 – The nearest S0 Galaxy [PDF]

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics, 2003
We report V−band and I−band CCD stellar and surface photometry of the galaxy NGC 404 , taken with HST WFPC2 and the 2.5 m Nordic telescope. The colour-magnitude diagram for the stars in this galaxy is typical of that of spheroidal systems (i.e. it lacks luminous, young stars but contains a large number of Asymptotic Giant Branch (AGB) and Red Giant ...

Size and Spectroscopic Evolution of HectoMAP Quiescent Galaxies

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2023
The HectoMAP survey provides a complete, mass-limited sample of 30,231 quiescent galaxies with i -band Hyper Suprime-Cam Subaru Strategic Program (HSC SSP) imaging that spans the redshift range 0.2 < z < 0.6.

Structure and stellar content of dwarf galaxies [PDF]

open access: yesAstronomy and Astrophysics Supplement Series, 2000
We have carried out CCD photometry in the Cousins B and R bands of 15 galaxies in the Canes Venatici I cloud. Total magnitudes, effective radii, effective surface brightnesses, as well as galaxy radii at various isophotal levels in both colors were determined.

A Proof‐of‐Concept Assessment of a Novel Wearable Eyelid Muscle Device: A Pre‐Clinical Animal Cadaver Study for Eyelid Closure Restoration

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This article introduces a soft wearable eyelid sling device incorporating a hydraulic soft artificial muscle (SAM) for achieving complete closure of an eyelid. The SAM is driven by a cam mechanism that provides a displacement profile closely matched with those of a healthy eyelid.

Ionized Gas and Stellar Content in a Sample of HII Galaxies [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Astronomical Union Colloquium, 1989
AbstractWe present the first results of an extensive study of the stellar content and the ionized gas structure for a sample of BCGs. Deep broad (BVRI Johnson) and narrow (Hα) CCD images have been obtained for about 25 galaxies. For a subset of objects, selected on the basis of their apparent structure, long-slit spectroscopy has also been obtained in ...

A Degradable Bioinspired Flier with Aerogel‐Based Colorimetric Sensors for Environmental Monitoring

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Biodegradable fliers are developed inspired by Tipuana tipu samaras, integrating cellulose nanocrystal aerogel (CNCa) sensors loaded with natural dyes for pH and ammonia detection. The lightweight, degradable fliers mimic natural morphology and aerodynamics, offering an eco‐friendly, scalable solution for in situ environmental monitoring after passive ...

Edible Pneumatic Battery for Sustained and Repeated Robot Actuation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work presents an edible energy source and valve system to power soft, pneumatically driven edible robots. A chemical reaction between sodium bicarbonate and citric acid generates carbon dioxide gas, and a pressure‐triggered edible valve enables self‐repetitive motion of the edible actuator.
