RR Lyrae Variables as Tracers of the Galactic Bulge Kinematic Structure

open access: yesUniverse, 2022
RR Lyrae stars are recognized as some of the oldest stars in the Universe. In addition, they are some of the few old celestial objects for which distances can be reliably inferred.

On a mechanism that structures galaxies [PDF]

open access: yesSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 1979
By considering the interaction of a single stellar orbit with a weak cos 2Φ potential it is shown that in the central regions of galaxies with slowly rising rotation curves, the elongations of the orbits will align along any potential valley and oscillate about it. This effect is more pronounced for elongated orbits.

Helical Structures in Seyfert Galaxies [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Astronomical Union Colloquium, 2002
Abstract Seyfert galaxies with Z-shaped emission filaments in the Narrow Line Region (NLR) are considered. We assume that observable Z-shaped structures and the velocity pattern of the NLR may be explained as tri-dimensional helical waves in the ionization cone.

THE ALIGNMENT OF GALAXY STRUCTURES

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2015
We analyzed the orientation of the sample of ACO galaxy clusters. We examined the alignment in a subsample of 1056 galaxy structures taken from the Panko–Flin (2006) Catalog with known BM morphological types. We were looking for a correlation between the orientation of the cluster and the positions of neighboring clusters.

THE STRUCTURE OF 2MASS GALAXY CLUSTERS [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2011
We use a sample of galaxies from the Two Micron All Sky Survey (2MASS) Extended Source Catalog to refine a matched filter method of finding galaxy clusters that takes into account each galaxy's position, magnitude, and redshift if available. The matched filter postulates a radial density profile, luminosity function, and line-of-sight velocity ...

Some Properties of Galaxy Structures [PDF]

open access: yesOpen Astronomy, 2011
Abstract We analysed some properties of galaxies structures based on the PF catalog of galaxy structures (Panko & Flin 2006) and the Tully NBG catalog (Tully 1988). At first, we analyzed the orientation of galaxies in the 247 optically selected rich Abell clusters, having at least 100 members. The distribution of the position angles

Vertical Density Distribution of the Galaxy from Star Count Analysis [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Astronomy and Space Sciences, 2002
The five space density distribution D(z) with distance perpendicular to the Galactic plane were combined. The scale heights and the local densities at z = 0 of the thin disk, thick disk, and the halo components were estimated from the nonlinear least ...

Rest-frame Near-infrared Radial Light Profiles up to z = 3 from JWST/NIRCam: Wavelength Dependence of the Sérsic Index

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2023
We examine the wavelength dependence of radial light profiles based on Sérsic index n measurements of 1067 galaxies with M _* ≥ 10 ^9.5 M _⊙ and in the redshift range 0.5 < z < 3. The sample and rest-frame optical light profiles are drawn from the Cosmic

Molecular Structures of Other Galaxies Compared to That of the Galaxy [PDF]

open access: yesSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 1979
Of the eleven galaxies with detected CO emission, eight have bright nuclear CO sources: M82, NGC 253, M51, NGC 5236, NGC 1068, Maffei 2 (Rickard et al. 1977a,b), NGC 6946, and IC 342 (Morris and Lo 1978). Two have disk-population CO sources and no detectable nuclear source (M31 and M81, Combes et al. 1977a), and one has no obvious nucleus (LMC, Huggins,
